I'm down here in Kissimmee visiting my Bro Hulk who's in Oceola Medical Center recovering from a Triple Valve job on his heart... He's a former Member here who's not real PC or WWW savy and seldom posted...

I've been riding his 2000 RSV around which has been siting since Bike Week and had old gas in it... I've run a couple of cans of Sea Foam through it and now have new gas in it and it is running better but... I have to drag the clutch a little and over rev it a little to get it to take off from a stop without knocking/pinging... Could this be a syncing problem... It sometimes pings when reving in neutral.. He has never had the carbs synced and I'd like to fix it for him so it'll be ready to roll when he recovers... I'm down here until Wed. unless the hurricane changes our flight plans.

Anybody got any ideas??

I doubt that synching the carbs will help that issue, sounds more like low octane gas or something like a bit of carbon in one or more or the cylinders that is staying hot enough to ignite the fuel air mixture before the plug fires. Try some higher octane fuel for a tank to see if the problem goes away. Could be a fouled plug, maybe, have you pulled them?

I would be glad to offer the services of my carbtune, but I doubt I can can get down towards Kissimmee before next weekend, with work and the storm on the way.

No I haven't pulled the plugs... But it only does it on take off and when I get on it it doesn't ping but does bog a little then pulls pretty smooth but not as strong as it should... I don't think it's carbon... I did put Premium in it and a full can of Sea Foam and it still does it..

When I ran the old gas it would barely run and stalled out at every light and had to have the choke on to run and was sputtering... Pobably did foul a plug or 2..

Wish you were closer to me Mark. I just dont have the time to run down there. And with the storm coming in I wouldnt suggest coming up here. Sounds like there might be some serious carbon build-up on those plugs. Or maybe one gap is closed. As far as gas goes, I have always run mid grade in mine. Might also be a bad connection with a plug wire.

that's what i would do, is pull the plugs and see what they are like, then warm the engine up, take the air filter off and just spray some carb cleaner in the ports from the top down. might even want to check out the fuel filter, the gas we hasve to buy now a days isn't worth the price we have to pay for it.
