After riding in the snow in Montana in June, I noticed my Gerbing jacket had a split seam under one arm. I knew others had the same issue and Gerbing fixed the problem so I wasn't worried. Should have been. Though the jacket had relatively few hours of use, it was out of warranty and they refused to fix the problem.

Please understand. If I had mistreated the jacket, I would feel differently. My observation led me to believe that the seam around the arms on the inside of the jacket is very poorly done. This is a quality control issue and Gerbing should take care of it.

I had a seamstress friend take care of it. She also stitched the other arm to prevent it from coming apart as well. If you have a Gerbing jacket, check out those seams. The material has a tendancy to fray once the seams parts.

If I had it to over again, I think I would be looking for something besides Gerbing.

Talking about heated gear in the middle of the summer? Yuck.

So how did you like the jacket and equipment other than the seams coming apart?

Except for the seams issue, something I knew was likely from another forum but thought Gerbing would take care of, I have been very happy with the performance of the jacket. The only other issue is that I also bought the heated gloves and it is simply not feasible to use them with the jacket on a single controller. The jacket and gloves are wired for that but you would have steam coming from the jacket before you get the gloves as warm as I want them (keep in mind I'm talking about a 19 degree Arkanasas day). Santa's going to have to bring me a dual controller!

One thing for sure. I believe in heated gear! I just think Gerbing needs to take care of quality control.

I have wondered if these things might need a dual controller like that. The balance between the two would be pretty critical, and I could see different people liking a different balance. That being the case, I will probably wire up my own jacket, just because it can be done so inexpensively. I have pictures somewhere of a Gerbings jacket that was taken apart to use as a good pattern. I haven't figured out how to do a set of gloves though. It's probably just as easy to get some commercially made electric gloves.

Iv heard that kind of stuff about Gerbing. I had trouble with a brand new set of gloves. If I were to buy a new set of stuff now It would be "Warm and Safe" . The people who make them are the same ones who originally designed the Gerbing stuff and left the company. Now they have improved on thier design and make the stuff better.
