Funny you posted this again, because last night I finally got mine installed after them sitting on the shelf for a few months.

Finally found some cheap $19 rectangular fog lights at Wally World last week. I didn't want round lights on the squarish Gen I.

Only problem is finding a place to mount the switch, I didn't want them to come on automatically.

Also, they don't have very good limits to the light, so they just kind of light up everything, including the mirrors! Right, if you put on a light that can scatter some light up, the mounting location will cause light to hit the mirror faces.

I solved this by putting a strip of metallic heat tape across the top, not sure it will stay on since these lights get REAL hot.

I will try to post some pics when I get around to it.

I hightly recommend the brackets though. You do have to drill out the main mounting hole to fit the factory bolt, but that was mentioned in the instructions.

Squid, what kind of lights to you recommend puting on these brackets?

Posted

Squidley,

I know picture examples show round lights with these brackets. Do they also work with the square lights as well. I have my square lights on the front crash bars where my forward foot pegs are. The lights have always been in the way. These brackets might be my solution.

Let me know if they will work with the square lights.

Thanks,

I actually have use lights that I bought at Walmart, they are made by Optronics

I have used part # QH-7CC

http://www.optronicsinc.com/competition.htm

and the ones that are pictured in the ad in the classifieds are Part # QH-75IT

I swapped out the 55 watt H3 bulb with one from Hella that is 35 watts to keep the power consmption down

Allen,

As long as the square lights aren't HUGE they will work. I had a guy buy a set of them on ebay and he wrote me back and said they vibrated a lot. I looked at the lights he installed from Hella and they were enormous almost 8" across and 4" top to bottom. These brackets wont handle that kind of weight or surface area.

The ones I responded to Humpster work very well and I am fairly confident that yours will work just fine with these. Matter of fact, I'll guarantee that if you dont like them or they dont work for you....I'll give you your money back, Hows that :confused24:

Squid, you're starting to sound like Wally World! Home of the price drop! Still love mine no matter what the costs is. I mounted the round chrome lights from WW on mine also and dropped them to the 35W set to keep the drain down. I can't tell a lot of difference between the 55 and the 35 anyway as far as the lighting goes. They area a huge improvement on the bike.

Thanks for setting us up with them.:clap2:

I put the little rectangular ones I found at Wal Mart and they fit fine with some trimming of the bracket, but they are so cheap that the reflector puts light EVERYWHERE! They dazzle at any angle. I have them aimed down enough that they shouldn't be a problem, but came into my carport last night after dark, and the lights lit up the ROOF at 15 feet away! I had to put a strip of tape across the top of the lens to keep them from lighting up the mirrors.

So I am going to order a set of these:

Only $30 or so and they are made by Hella (their less expensive line). I will get the FOG lights since they have a wider beam and should cut off the light so they won't irritate other drivers. They are small, and should look good.

Since I have a CLASS and no air chuck in the hole up in the middle of the handle bars (also had no idea there isn ormally a plug in that hole), I dremeled the hole out just a bit and slid a fake billet toggle switch in there. Works out perty good and gave that useless hole something to do.

That sounds like an idea!! My new 85 needs a few things.

Don,

Those are a nice set of lights and I couldn't find anything in that shape when I was looking. They should match the shape of the headlight and if made by Hella should stand up pretty well, thanks for posting that up and giving others here the added choice :thumbsup2:
