rfeazell Posted August 12, 2008 #1 Posted August 12, 2008 I am having problems with my clutch and hope someone can give me advice on how to address the problem. The clutch starting functioning poorly on a ride a few days ago. I checked the fluid level and it was low. Added some fluid and the clutch started working well. A fews days later, on another ride, I encounterred the same problem. The fluid reservoir was almost empty. I placed a piece of cardboard under the bike when I parked it and my suspicions were confirmed. There is a fluid leak that is causing me to lose brake fluid. Has anyone encountered this problem before and what are some things I should know in resolving this issue? Rick
rfeazell Posted August 12, 2008 Author #2 Posted August 12, 2008 UPDATE ! ! I think I found the problem. I looked under my bike (1999 RSV) while it was parked in my driveway. There are some black rubber hoses running under the transmission and one of those is split. I looked there after tracing the leak to that area with the handy cardboard I put under the bike. Any ideas on what this is or how extensive the repairs would be? Rick
gunboat Posted August 12, 2008 #3 Posted August 12, 2008 hi sounds like your clutch push lever or hyd. line may be leaking at the banjo bolt. at the base of the left rear cylinder there is a black rubber boot/ squre. pull it off, it has a little peice of rubber like a(o-ring that) slips over the bleed screw. spray some carb or disk brake cleaner down in to this hole. clean the area up as best you can. refill the clutch fluid then put a new peice of cardboard back under there. then squeeze the clutch handle a bunch of times, use a good flashlight ( bright beam of light) now just watch for any leaks. their are other sources but i know about this link to look up these parts. www.cyclepartswarehouse.com gives the ipc break down as #27-plush lever comp.----$48.20 p/n--ifk16381-11-00 #28-bleed screw kit------$10.66 p/n--1nl-w0098-00-00 #29-plush lever seal kit---$12.14 p/n--26h-w0098-00-00 also you can view the ipc to see where all this looks like and fits. i think #27 comes with the other 2 parts to make one unit. this is for a 1999 or newer scoot. hope this helps don c.
gunboat Posted August 12, 2008 #4 Posted August 12, 2008 hi forgot to add if you have a puddle of fluid on the clean cardboard. stick your finger in it and smell it, clutch/brake fluid has a different smell to it than used oil. if you fill your oil passed the midway point of the sight glass. it will leak out of one of these hoses and leave a couple of drops under this same area. don c.
