KiteSquid Posted August 11, 2008 #1 Posted August 11, 2008 I have a Stebel Compact Natulis air horn on my bike. I replaced one of the factory horns and used the bracket made by Carbon One to mount it. I purchased a Stabel Compact Truck Horn and am looking for mounting options..... Who has two or more compact air hons mounted??? I could use some photos.
Billet Posted August 11, 2008 #2 Posted August 11, 2008 I picked up a Wolo Bad Boy at Harbor Junk a couple months ago and could never figure out where to mount it. It's the crappy looking black one, not the chrome one. What I finally did was remove the compressor from the horn (slips right off) then cut off the plastic clamps that hold the OD of the compressor. Then mount the compressor inside the fairing. I tucked it in behind the wiring harness to the left of the headlight with a fabricated bracket and a hose clamp. Tap the inlet of the plastic horn 1/8" NPT and get a 5/16 brass barb fitting @ the local hdw. store along with 3' of 5/16 vinyl tubing. Remove the front stock horn from inside the left lower fairing and cut off half of the mounting tab from the tip over bar leaving one nut in case you ever want to chance back. Then do a little creative carving on the black plastic piece that covers the front horn until the bad boy fits. Snap the plastic covers off of the diaphrams for more clearance. Then run the tubing from the compressor to the horn and wire in your relay. Now that I look at this it sure seems like a pain in the butt. It was. Actually a whole morning but the results were worth it. You can still use the rear stock horn or one mounted in it's place and you can't see this mod at all. Sorry now that I didn't take pictures of the progress. That could be a whole other half day job.
Carbon_One Posted August 11, 2008 #3 Posted August 11, 2008 Besides the Steble air horn in place of the right side stock horn I've mount a pair of electric Highway Blasters on the bike. One under the lower left cowling in place of the stock horn and the other inside the fairing to the left of the headlight assembly. These horns are about as loud as the air horn too. Certainly they'll get some errant cagers attention. I did have to fabricate a new bracket for the one in the left cowling & take off the plastic cover on the horn. Ran all the wiring thru the same relay too. Sorry no pics of my set up either. Perhaps next time I have the covers off. Larry
whozleft Posted August 11, 2008 #4 Posted August 11, 2008 I know that some of the Goldwingers used to mount airhorns up under their saddlebags.
KiteSquid Posted August 12, 2008 Author #5 Posted August 12, 2008 I kinda like the stelthy look of the natulis horns. The Compcat Truck horn is a little bigger than the Copmpact natulis horn. Last night I was loooking at the Compcat Truck horn and yes it too will come appart. I will look in the upper fairing and the lower fairings for a mounting location, as it does not look like it will fit well under the trunk as a unit, but I have yet to seperate the horn from the compressor..... I'll look again.
