Guest Ken8143 Posted August 13, 2008 #26 Posted August 13, 2008 From what I've heard on this site I won't put Metzlers on! I did have an Avon delaminate on me several year ago after maybe 3000 miles - but - I have to admit I was new to the bike and it could very well be that I did not keep the rear tire inflated like it should have been. No problems since and I use the Elite II.
Keitho Posted August 13, 2008 #27 Posted August 13, 2008 Keitho, Not that I'm an expert at anything, but I have never heard of any problems with Avons. I talk with lots of bikers and I have heard more problems with the 880's for bikers I dont even know at some local haunts. I talked with a guy that rides a Harley and went through 2 880's on his H/D. I just think that we should all just send an email to Metzler and let them know that we aren't going to support their product as long as this keeps happening. We all aren't to blame like they say for under/Over inflation for a problem on their crappy tire Hi Squid. I too ain't no expert, that is why I asked the stealer. I am now beginning to think that he did give me a bit of the B.S. I checked my front tire to see where it was made, it came from Brazil, so much for the made in Spain speel. But I will tell ya in all the 33 years that I have been riding I have yet to experience a blow out or a de-lamination of a tire, nor do I ever hope too "knock on wood" ,my fingers are also crossed when I say that, although a friend of mine, who owns a 1999 Venture did have his rear stock Bridgestone de-laminate on the hiway doing the ton, he was lucky to be able to tell the story. I must say that I have never had a problem with all the Metzlers that I have owned over the years and for that reason alone I will continue to use them. Having said that I will continue to monitor this and other web sites to see if there continues to be problems with the Metzlers. Sorry if I got your back up Squid.LOL. Ride safe. Keith.

Keith, Not at all my friend, I just cringe when I hear of folks putting the 880's on. Lonna and I survived a crash that technically should have killed us. The rear tire let loose at 75 mph and there is virtually no recovering from that, I did try though It wasn't a Metzler, but if a rear tire lets go similarly, it's very bad news. It's all about money, like everything else in the world. Metzler thinks that we are a bunch of morons by telling us of tire underinflated. Bottom like they are covering their behinds, I tell every rider I know about Metzlers. Not that my mouth is going to hurt their sales, but I would like to think that if the 1 right person hears about it that has a bit of power or leverage....something might be done.
Keitho Posted August 14, 2008 #29 Posted August 14, 2008 Hi Squid, I read about the accident that you guys had, seeing the pictures that you posted at the time, I recall thinking that you two should go play the power ball (I think that is the name of the Lottery) it is good to see that you have both recovered and still enjoy riding today. Continued success to you both and take care. Keith.
StarRider07 Posted August 14, 2008 #30 Posted August 14, 2008 Here is their reply................. Hello Thank you for the e-mail. The quality of the product is closely watched by all parties and we are proud of the lack of warranty claims we have handled over the years. Please rest assured that we are very serious about the quality of our products, and we monitor the warranty claims very closely. We are proud to tell you even with the 2007 sales increases we had our warranty claim rate percentage decreased compared to 2006 and this is very important. As a company that actively interacts with the dealers and consumers (supporting the dealers that sell and install) at rallies and events across the country over the last six years we are shocked by the amount of consumers riding with tires grossly under inflated. This lack of correct air pressure or using the incorrect non approved tires is causing the majority of the complaints, but you never can read or see this on the forums and hence where the mis-information comes from. We always suggest that consumers use our brochure as a reference for fitment and air pressure requirements. These brochures can be picked up at a local dealer, from a dealer at a rally, at each of the Cycle World IMS shows across the country, or by simply downloaded from our web site. Thank you again and I hope this information is helpful and used properly. US Metzeler Moto http://www.us.metzelermoto.com 877 202-4993 So what do you think?

That is exactly the response I figured you would get..That is why i did not push the issue when mine failed, everybodys fault but theirs. I just chalked it up to bad experience and will tell people of my experience and PRAY that if they want to use Metz on their Ventures that Nothing happens to whoever. Personally My wife and My life is more important than to take the chance on a tire that so many are having the problem with. When they blow its too late for thinking maybe I should have taken the warning. I love my Avons but trust me if they EVER have a major problem I will bash them as hard as the Metz.To all that run them watch close as they start by small cracks by the center tread and all I know of have been the rear tire.

Yes to both...we didn't expect anything different did we Just keep telling the flock about them and hopefully we can hurt their sales enough to make a difference.
1BigDog Posted August 14, 2008 #35 Posted August 14, 2008 My response from them 4 years ago was a bit stronger. Maybe because I was a bit more agressive with them after the first "blow off" response. Air pressure issue again, even though I ran 46-48 lbs pressure. Another thing that I have found out is that they do not take forums seriously. They feel that we are nothing more than a bunch of whiners. What I would suggest that we start doing is to save those discarded tires, bring them to the next major bike event where Metzeler has a tent set up and put on our own display. Maybe then they will take notice. Or you may get arrested....who knows...
