Ignition Fuse Keeps Blowing

Recommended Posts

Bare wire somewhere around the switch...probably touches metal...doesnt take much of a hole in the wire casing to cause troubles. I found this out with my driving lights in Kitchener last month. Just a pin hole and it set off all kinds of neat things with all my lights.

I am guessing around the switch...mostly as an easier starting spot to check out. I'm sure someone will have other ideas of were to look as well.

Feeds power to the following items

1. 4 Ignition Coils

2. Fuel pump Relay

3. Fuel Pump

4. Power from fust goes Thru, the Run-Stop Switch.

---- Check the wireing up to the Red Switch on right handlebar.

5. Side stand Relay

6. TCI, Main 12 Volt power to the 8 Pin Plug on the TCI.

7. Cruz Control system, if you have it.

Check your Fuse holder carefully

Check all the wireing cables that are Close to the Steering, Cable may be Stressed or damated in that area.

Check the cableing going up to the Run Stop switch, Remove the cover where the cables run thru the handle bars. A few folks have found damaged wireing in that area.

Carefully check the Wireing Cable that goes down to the Side Stand switch. This is a prime area for wireing damage.

Good luck,

Thank you for your help.

The ignition fuse also has the Flasher relay, Fan motor relay, Starter switch, and the Pressure Sensor on it. Almost 1/2 of the wiring! Intermittent makes harder to find. Side stand switch kind of makes sense when I stop. I'll just check 1 at a time. I put a curcuit breaker instead of a fuse that resets when the power is shut off.

Do you mean the fuse blows when the sidestand is put down? If not..

my guess would be the fan has a short...and when it finally kicks on, idling after a longer ride...the fuse blows....you could test run idling to check it.

The flasher relays should not be on the ignition fuse...should be on the signal fuse, and hazard flasher on main fuse.
