heatonmt Posted August 9, 2008 #1 Posted August 9, 2008 Well I installed the new clearview shield tented today I am 5'8" tall I bought the med 3" shorter the stock. I think it may be just a little short but not to bad. I took it out for a ride It did not take long to find out the clearview leans back more then the stock shield The sun hit the gas Cap and bulls eye the reflection hits the shield and where is it on that shied right at eye level so what is next? $250.00 later it will be hard to see and what a distraction. OK pull back into the house tell Teri get me that blue rag over there so I can put over the gas cap bing reflection gone next step gas cap cover ordered over the phone should be here next week. then I will try again. At the end of the day next shield well have no tent and if it is a clearview I will go with the large. The shield does look like it is will made when you order one though make sure of the hight you need. PS don't take off the cover it is shipped with in case you want to send back ask me how I know that, needless to say I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer I should have read the tag on the shield.
AKRefugee Posted August 10, 2008 #2 Posted August 10, 2008 I use a black foam can cooler (aka koozie) with the bottom cut out. Put it on my gas cap. No more glare on the windshield. Looks good because I have the 06 Cherry Red paint and I use it as a holder for my cell phone when I am riding. I can also use it to hold a small water bottle or my coffee cup while I ride to work.
BradT Posted August 10, 2008 #3 Posted August 10, 2008 There is a little leather punch that can be purchased that slips over the gas cap. HAs to be removed each time you want to fill. BRad
1BigDog Posted August 10, 2008 #4 Posted August 10, 2008 I had to use the black leather cover too. Yamaha used to sell it..they may still do.
heatonmt Posted August 10, 2008 Author #5 Posted August 10, 2008 In reading this I take it I am not the first to encounter this problem. I have ordered the cover from Yamma hammer but I think I will can cooler hunting today that sound like a good Idea. thanks. :7_6_3[1]::7_6_3[1]::7_6_3[1]:
VTirelli Posted August 10, 2008 #6 Posted August 10, 2008 Hmmmmmmm...I wonder why I don't have this problem. Is it a height thing? I've never had a glare problem with mine and now I'm wondering why.(not that I WANT the problem though)
Guest ezornes Posted August 10, 2008 #7 Posted August 10, 2008 I am confused , you have to raise up the plastic lid to access my gas cap? How can sun glare on it.....
Freebird Posted August 10, 2008 #8 Posted August 10, 2008 You ride an '89. They are entirely different than the second ge ('99-present) which has a conventional gas tank and cap.
V7Goose Posted August 10, 2008 #9 Posted August 10, 2008 Hmmmmmmm...I wonder why I don't have this problem. Is it a height thing? I've never had a glare problem with mine and now I'm wondering why.(not that I WANT the problem though) It must be a height thing. I have heard for years about people complaining of this, and I have never experienced it. I am 6'5", use the stock shield, and I occasionally see the reflection of the cap in the shield, but never a glare from it after 60,000 miles. Goose

Goose I did not hace any trouble with the stock shield at all It was when I installed the clearview with tint that it showed up it could be the clearview leans toward the rider a bit more then stock shield
FairlaneDA Posted August 10, 2008 #11 Posted August 10, 2008 I put the tall one on with the tint, never noticed the gas cap reflection. I love the tint I think it helps cut down the glare at night. Made a 2200 mile trip in June not a problem, never had a problem with the stock windshield either.
