Kidh2 Posted August 7, 2008 #1 Posted August 7, 2008 It must be something about the area or maybe it's the dealerships but I have only seen a handful of Ventures locally (Slidell, Louisiana) in the past four years that I have owned mine. A local restaurant has a bike night every wednesday (hundreds of bikes everyweek) with food, beer booths and music, vendors set up shop and sometimes riding exhibitions from the Sheriff's dept and over 95% of the bikes are Harleys? My bike ends up being the odd ball. I took the tank emblems off so people always ask me "what kind of bike is that?" We need more Venture riders !!!!!
Bummer Posted August 7, 2008 #2 Posted August 7, 2008 No, no, no. We need to remain one of the rarest rides on the road. Exclusive community. Brothers of the V-4. Not for the hoardes of barbarians. We're Ferraris. They're Chevys. That sort of thing. I left the tank badges on mine. When people ask I just tell 'em "Sorry guy, you can't have one. They didn't make enough. Maybe next year." Don't we?
Naked Rider Posted August 7, 2008 #3 Posted August 7, 2008 i to have only seen one RSV and it is a 07. i was in st louis when he bought it that day later on i found out he lives in my home town but i have only seen it on the road one time.
Squidley Posted August 7, 2008 #4 Posted August 7, 2008 Danny, Kbran is in Bogalusa and if I remember correctly that isn't real far from you. BrScooter is in Baton Rouge and is retired now....so he has lots of time to ride, right Lyle I just left Kenny (Kbran) about 4 hours ago in Perrysburg Ohio on his new to him '86 VR. He's headed towards Ashville right now for the rally for a few days then back home to Bogalusa

My bike ends up being the odd ball. I took the tank emblems off so people always ask me "what kind of bike is that?" We need more Venture riders !!!!! I think the "bike nights" tend to draw more of a Harley crowd. They can park their bikes and socialize which seems to be what the Harley crowd is all about(mostly). Venture owners are riders, you will see us out riding the roads instead of parked beside it styling and profiling. Why remove the badges? I love it when someone is walking past a whole line of HD's and stops at my RSV and asks"what kind of bike is that"?
bossman Posted August 7, 2008 #6 Posted August 7, 2008 Yeah, what he said.Matter of fact I was missing the left emblem on tank cost me 65.00 but I believe well worth it. just kinda looked naked without it.

I saw a Black cherry Venture turning into Home Depot over here a few days ago. You, maybe?

I removed the bib first and liked the look so I took off the emblems and now the tank is screaming for some custom paint. Sketching out some ideas now, with such a big canvas to work with it should come out nice. When I finally get it done I'll post some pics.
Schlepporello Posted August 7, 2008 #9 Posted August 7, 2008 Over half of the world owns a stinkin' Harley. The main reason I bought a Yamaha was so I wouldn't have to buy an inferior product. Oh! By the way. One of my tubas is a Yamaha. http://i29.tinypic.com/o2vzo.jpg
Dano Posted August 7, 2008 #10 Posted August 7, 2008 I've been in Amarillo (OK it was 10 years ago), can't believe theres a TUBA in that town!!!! You MUST play it behind closed doors!!!! LOL Dan
padavidj Posted August 7, 2008 #11 Posted August 7, 2008 I always thought it was better to stand out than to follow the pack, I think that is how it goes anyway. I do agree with what some others have posted on this thread, most of the Harley guys are owners not riders and after riding a few harleys I can see why! Remember there was many reasons why you bought your Venture, be proud of it! I know I am proud of my RSTD. Harley riders aways ask what make mine is and if they are asking they are interested to know what bike that is that just blew by them without breaking a sweat! Hey Harleys are nice looking bikes, put to get the performance to a level of the Royal Stars you will end up paying alot more than what we all spent for our rides. I know when I bought my RSTD I compared alot of bikes and took alot of bikes for a test ride. I guess one question that should also be asked is; Are you not happy with your bike? Dave, aka the Chubby Ape:thumbsup2:

I do as the city ordinances allow. Not meaning to hijack this fine thread, but when I started playing regularly 20 years ago, I thought I was the only one. Our ranks are growing in Amarillo. We are now a legion (or at least five) of tuba players. The basses will conquer the world! Resistance is futile! You will be assimilated! Mwahahahahaha!
Owen Posted August 8, 2008 #13 Posted August 8, 2008 Yeah, what he said.Matter of fact I was missing the left emblem on tank cost me 65.00 but I believe well worth it. just kinda looked naked without it. Geezzz Luezzzz! You should have said something, you could have mine! I like the 'clean old school' look. Besides, it gives me a larger area to dream about the custom paint job I know it will eventually get!
ediddy Posted August 8, 2008 #14 Posted August 8, 2008 I used to knock harleys and say they are inferior. I can't say that anymore. My friends that own harleys are riding while my venture is in the shop. Everytime I meet my harely friends they ask me "isn't it time for another rear end." I just laught and say, no it hasn't been 5,000 miles since the last one. It's been in the shop for two weeks now waiting for a fuel pump. The harely riders are riding while I am in the shop. I've had the shock replaced, I basket, 5 rear ends, radio replaced and now the fuel pump. All my friends that bought harleys haven't had any problems.
jneed53 Posted August 8, 2008 #15 Posted August 8, 2008 (edited) I'm in Dallas where there are supposedly numerous RSVs. I seldom see them, but have gotten to know a few local members through this site. I have reversed course to chat with riders who were stopped somewhere (waiting on someone, goofing off, etc.) Some will seem surprised and were talkative and some couldn't care less that we are on the same machine. Anyway, it is really a good feeling to go to a predominately HD place and have the odd machine that garnersquite a few comments and stares. Enjoy it!! Edited August 8, 2008 by jneed53 Messed up

My '06 has been in the shop once for non-routine stuff (tires and scheduled maintenance) in just shy of 44,000 miles and 30 months. The one time was rear-end clicking that was bearings at 4,000 miles -- dealer did it under warranty and gave me my old trade-in bike back to ride while they fixed it! I did have to replace a lower cowling once, but that was a raccoon's fault. Yammy should cut losses -- theirs and yours -- and give you another RSV! James Ardrey Posted August 8, 2008 #17 Posted August 8, 2008 Over half of the world owns a stinkin' Harley. The main reason I bought a Yamaha was so I wouldn't have to buy an inferior product. Oh! By the way. One of my tubas is a Yamaha. http://i29.tinypic.com/o2vzo.jpgI like your rap etcha-sketch analogy. So true:rotf:Yamaha makes a lot of cool stuff besides motorcycles. My first high dollar stereo was all Yamaha and it got stolen from my apartment when I was in college. I replaced it with a Mitsubishi that I have had for 27yrs. As for RSV's in my area. I know of 5 and 2 Rstd's in my little town of 1600. Many more in the Tulsa area. Maybe some dealerships in certain areas of the country don't order many RSV's It would be cool to get a breakdown of the # of them being sold by region. I don't know if that info is available. Maybe someone here knows.
FutureVentures Posted August 8, 2008 #18 Posted August 8, 2008 How timely is this thread? I'm riding a 2000 MM limited edition RSV. So yesterday I'm riding down the main street from my house, Deep Lake Road in NE Illinois, I see a bike coming towards me, white, big, gorgeous. Sure enough, after doing the obligatory low hand salute, I realize for sure, it's another 2K MM RSV! He was riding two up. I then spasmatically pointed to his bike, at 40mph each.... I damn near turned around to chase and say hello. Anyway, it was cool, my bike has a brother somewhere in the hood. Cheers.

Dave, aka the Chubby Ape:thumbsup2: Maybe my original post was not very clear? sorry I love the bike. Very proud to have it stand out in the crowd because we Venture riders are the exception and not the rule and like it when folks ask what kind of bike is it. I was just curious as to the wherabouts of some other Venture brothers and sisters in the area. I actually have fun dogging my HD riding padna's telling them the reason we have windshields, fairings and cowlings is to block the parts falling off of Harley's as we pass them on the road.
rsstar Posted August 9, 2008 #20 Posted August 9, 2008 Hey kid2, I HAD an 06 but totaled it last year. I know of an 07 black cherry, a red, a black and a silver around the Mississippi coast, I think I have also seen an 07 blue but not sure if it was a local bike. After having two Ventures I decided to do something different...went to a Wing. Hopefully I will be back on the bike this next week. Had bypass surgery 7 weeks ago. If you get up this way (Biloxi) drop me a pm before, and maybe we can at least get some ice cream. I very seldom ride over that way but if I do I'll let you know.
Semi-retired Posted August 16, 2008 #21 Posted August 16, 2008 Hey, Erich.......nice shot with the golf clubs. Was your installation something you picked up on this site? (was it covered in a post/thread that is retrievable?) Or did you do a custom job yourself? Any info greatly appreciated. Mike How timely is this thread? I'm riding a 2000 MM limited edition RSV. davecb Posted August 17, 2008 #22 Posted August 17, 2008 At the 3 state meet and eat in Cedat Bluff, AL a few weeks ago, there were nine Ventures. See, we bought em all... Ans most of us live in Huntsville...
brscooter Posted August 17, 2008 #23 Posted August 17, 2008 Kid, as the Squid said I am in Baton Rouge and have a silver 05, however, having said that I am going to by a 2004 GW Trike , probably on Tuesday. I have some medical problems and feel that I will be more secure on it. I am then going to advertise mine for sell. I will still be happy to ride with you here or in between , I retired from the BR police at the end of June. Still have a lot of commitments though as my Mother lives with me and has pancreatic cancer. She fell last night and broke her arm so any prayers out there will help I,m sre. Lyle my cell number is on the list.
chocking Posted August 17, 2008 #24 Posted August 17, 2008 Here in western Wisconsin I've only seen a few Ventures.. We do have a few 1st Gens in the area. Some that I've met, while some I look forward to meeting..It's absolutely the greatest to have a classic ride like the 1st gen:banana: compared to all the home grown Harleys in the brew state.. Clay
bryan52577 Posted August 17, 2008 #25 Posted August 17, 2008 Here in Oskaloosa, IA I have seen a half dozen Royal Stars, and 3 first generations and 2 second generation ventures. That being said not sure they are local or not? Started to go purchase a Harley then found I could have better at half the price:mo money:.......As the neighbor kid would say "DUH"! Glad I made the right choice!
