As my dad says, "Anything is easy if you know what you are doing" Well I don't and the bike won't start.

Here is the symptoms. The battery is okay. The lights and dash look good when the key is turned on. Lights and dash go off as they should when I hit the starter button but nothing else happens. Bike does not turn over or even try.

I've got several guesses but I've already shown my ignorance.

What should I look for?

Check kill switch is fully on.

Ensure bike is in neutral.....even though it can start in gear....if the sidestand or clutch switch has failed it will prevent cranking.

If it now starts but dies as soon as you go out of neutral....sidestand switch needs checking.

Thanks, It is running.

Darn kill switch got me again. Thought that I had checked it. Oh well. Got several things done on the honey dew list when I should have been riding.

Yep, nothing will tighten your sphincter more than being miles from home, hitting the start button and nothing happens....Been there..you almost feel relieved when you realize it was "only" the kill switch....

I agree with the sphincter remark, did the same thing on my trip this year. Wow what a moment of adrenaline and the feeling of oh shuzbutt!!!!!!!! Then the relief of - I hope nobody saw that, and the little giggle of relief to yourself!! Glad ya found it
