Garmin Streetpilot 2720

Recommended Posts

I just ordered a Garmin Streetpilot 2720 with ram mount, and I’m thinking to hardwire it or use the power outlet from my bike…but I’m also thinking can you connect it to your audio system so you can hear the directions thru your speakers or is the original speaker loud enough to hear the directions when you ride.

Can't wait to install everything.

I've got the 2730 Garmin and I listen to it thru my bike's sound system. It's not as loud for some reason as the FM so it can be a little hard to at highway speeds. It happens in my car as well so I know it's not the bike. Other wise I really enjoy this Garmin.

Just got back from a 1K mile run with the 2720 on an 89 Venture. If you get the bike mounting kit from Garmin it will come with an earphone pigtail up by the unit. Wish they would have put it down lower to keep an extra wire off the handlebars, but oh well.

I tried to hook the Garmin up to my Autocom intercom (PO totally removed the stock system) but need an isolator to keep from getting some nasty feedback.

The system worked great all through OH, Detroit, Ontario Canada and back through NY, PA and home. The RAM mount I have uses two bolts to the clutch reservoir. I like the position, as it puts the screen close to read easily, and it's right above the edge of the chin bar of my full face helmet. Easy to glance down to check without having to move my head.

Sorry, don't have any ideas for interfacing with the factory system, besides maybe using one of those cassette adapters that folks use for MP3 players?

Best of luck, if I can be of any further help, drop me a line.

How was the volume from the speaker that is built in the power cord plug in?

I hope that you can hear the directions thru that little speaker when you ride.

Might I suggest Kennedy Technology Group as a possible source for your interfacing task... www.cellset.com has some interesting devices available. We use them for interfacing amateur radio equipment into the existing audio and com systems on bikes. The site is a little confusing but just give them a call with your gps, cell, bike, etc. and they will let you know what you should order.

Just a thought...

Can't speak to the volume of the speaker, as I use the motorcycle mounting kit that provides power straight from the battery (if you want, my setup is a bit different) and then has a female 3.5mm pigtail for plugging in whatever you like. I will be running a line to my Autocom intercom, but I need an isolator to eliminate some nasty feedback. So, for now, I'm not getting any voice prompts, which I miss, but eventually I will get them through the helmet speakers via the intercom.

Best of luck!

My 2720 cable came with a speaker wire that has a pigtail that you can get to plug into the AUX on the dash, but then the GPS would only be audible when on aux, but I have been told that you can slpit the faiinmg and hard wire throught the radio there?

I've never bothered, just hot wired it into a pigtail from my battery tender on the battery. :confused24:
