Iowawegian Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 who owns a Virago. Russell, When I'm on the Virago, I always get wind blowing up on the left side of my bike that hits me right in the face. Does this ever happen to you? I find that if I put my left foot on the passenger peg it stops it, (but that obviously looks stupid not to mention, it's not the safest way to ride) I don't know why it's only on the left side but anyway....Do you know of any place that sells wind deflectors for an 95 1100 Virago?
rod Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I have not noticed that on my 98 1100. I have forward controls on mine now and a short wind shield. As for the lowers never seen them on a Virago but you should be able to make/adapt some that clamp to the forks. Rod
Iowawegian Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 Hey Rod, do you think it could be from the style of windsheild that's on my bike. I don't know what kind it is, but it's big. http://itadvisorygroup.com/SPS/auctionimages/55-9155Lg.jpgHere's a pix of what it looks like.
rod Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Yep I have heard the slipstreamer shield causes that problem. Bolting on some lowers would fix it. I have not seen lowers made for the Virago but have seen Viragos with lowers from other bikes fitted. Good luck Rod
DragonRider Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I had the same problem with my V Star 1300, after I fabricated some lowers and installed them,no more wind noise and buffetting gone................
Iowawegian Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 Dragon Rider, You don't happen to have a pix of the ones you fabricated do you? I could get Gary to do the same for me. Tessa c2, Well, there was that one time, after I had just added blinker fluid, I got on the bike and rolled it all the way to town backwards, but it didn't seem to make any difference! My legs hurt so bad after that I decided not to try that again!:crackup:
Gearhead Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 My Virago is an 87 1100, and I don't notice this either. My windshield is smaller, I'd call it mid-size. It does not have hand wings. I have floor boards mounted in the stock peg position, and looong homemade hiway pegs. When my feet are on the hiway pegs I notice air ramping up my legs and under my jacket, etc. I also wear a full-face helmet, so maybe I wouldn't notice it anyway. Jeremy
Iowawegian Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 I'm sure it's the windsheild that's causing it. Does anyone have any pix of fabricated wind deflectors that they've made? The hubby's pretty good about that kind of thing. Also, looking for engine guards to put highway pegs on the Virago. Not much on ebay, except brand new ones and I don't want to spend that kind of money. I was hoping to find a used one. If anyone ever hears of any, would they let me know? Thanks
DragonRider Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 (edited) Here are some pics, if you need I can take some in the daylight for a better view......They work really great, made all the difference in the comfort level and noise and buffetting. rod Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Look around this site http://viragotechforum.com/phpBB/portal.php Tons of Virago info. A modification of the home made forward controls would work for the highway bars. Rod
Iowawegian Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 Thanks for the pix!! It looks like something he could do. Appreciate the help. As far as the Virago Tech site...I've been jumping on there a few times, tried to sign up but haven't had much luck. I emailed them yesterday to see what's taking so long to become registered but haven't heard anything back. Maybe it's just going to take time for me to get used to the site. Thanks again for the help!
rod Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 They had some upgrade problems on the virago site. There is also an email list. http://archives.bengrosser.com/virago/ Good luck Rod
rod Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 BTW if you heat the plexiglass to around 300 deg you can bend/mold it to a curved shape. Rod
