Crazy man the market is crazy. So what is a low mileage first gen 84 model worth? There is 3 answers to that question.

1. Book value would say around $1200

2. Market value ( what people are paying ) is something else. I watched one sell on Ebay last weekend for $3850.00 and bidders fought over it to the end.

3. Personal value. Maybe your scoot has been a faithful friend and it's current value to you is Priceless.

No matter which category your thinking falls under one thing is for sure. There bringing twice the price of just a few years ago.:mo money::mo money:

Loaded question there Froggie, to me in great shape no more than $2K. I think what it is would be the gas prices and now everyone is trying to buy a bike to save fuel costs. So they are driving the market value up. I believe that once many of these folks buy one and realise they are in over their heads the price will come back down.....but I'm just a dumb welder

It seems like all old bikes are going up in price. This week i saw a V65 Magna go for $2300. When it started on ebay it was about $1600 running. Shortly after it was not running and still went for that price.

Although I like the Kaw Z1's they are going for over $3000 and they are not in good shape. More than I want to spend unless it is really clean.

It's supply & demand. Everyone's looking for a 40 mpg vehicle to commute; it's primo riding season, and the new bikes are tough to finance for a working guy. If you need to clean out your garage, now's the time.

A couple of old Ventures for sale here, one for parts, the other? I'll swing by and look at them. Anyone need parts?

I was fighting for the one that went for 3850 and would not have regreted it a bit. A beautiful 84 with 16k. It looked in showroom condition. I bid 39 and it didn't go quick enough. Had a buddy offer to snipe it for me and I was Tooo stupid to let him. I HATE snipes!! But if I had it would be mine and I wouldn't be riding a UGLY bike to Ashville!!! It sure was pretty and BLUE!!

I paid $3000 for my 84 with 70,000 miles on it. And I had to look long and hard to find this one! Everything else I was finding was either a misused Harley or a neglected Gold Wing and everything else I was looking at in this area was well over $3000. Compared with what our market had to offer, I got a deal!

Up here in Western Canada it is higher still, there is a 93 VR in a local classified site with 64k miles on it, nice shape from the look of it but he is asking 5500 bux.

Geez I thought pay 4k for mine last spring was too high, but prices around here are nuts, with the oil driving the economy and pushing our prices up. Almost any bike is with 30 percent more than it was a year ago around here.

It's one of the reasons my wife's bike was purchased when it was. She has yet to ride it and for that matter, hasn't even taken the class, as she is currently preggers (8 Mos as of now). However, if we would of waited till she could learn and then purchased, price would have probably jumped close to a grand....especially with it being a smaller "starter" bike for most people. If she starts riding and doesn't like it, I can just turn it around probably sell it for more than I bought it for...and give me a nice down payment for a 2nd bike. It was a win-win for us...hehehe:p

Let's face it, gas isn't cheap and it isn't looking any better in the long run. People are learning bikes, even the big ones we ride, can get 30-40+ mpg...I know one of the guys I work with hardly had any miles on his sportster untill he started dropping $100 in diesel into his truck....now he rides it to work daily for $11/wk.

One one side, it kinda blows because the market prices are goin up, BUT at the same time more riders are getting on the road and hopefully become more aware of those that have been out there for awhile now...of course that doesn't quite include me as I only started riding early this year....but that was because of wife-like circumstances...blessed thee for having a best friend across the street that buys a Valkyrie...She couldn't say no any longer...hehehe :D

I agree. Under the right circumstances folks will pay high dollar for used bikes. :mo money:

I've been looking at Suzuki GS1000's on E-Bay since that was the first bike I owned (nostalgia). I found one that is exactly like my old scoot and it has a buy it now price of $8250! Curious to see if someone actually pays that amount. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motorcycles___1978-Suzuki-GS1000-GS1000E-one-owner-mint-condition_W0QQitemZ160266737307QQddnZMotorcyclesQQddiZ2283QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160266737307&_trksid=p3756.m14.l1318

Who knows? Old bike prices might go the way of muscle cars. People will pay any price to get what they want.

Used bicycles are going up in value as well. I just sold a bike frame on E-Bay for $760! Thats right, frame only. I was hoping to get 400 bucks for it but it's a collectible and a couple of guys really wanted it.:) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290242396496&rd=1

Hey Brian

Thats a pretty good price for Manitoba. Not a bad deal at all. Manitoba resale rates are nuts. That 93 would be a bargain.

I have often thought of buying from our friends south and then reselling here. But, my ethics would not allow me to take advantage of fellow site members that way.

When I sold my 89....I wont say what I got for it....but lets say it didnt cost me anything to run other than maintainence for the 3 years I had it. But the guy did get a matching trailer as well.

Maybe at Ashville we can have a discussion about paying too much for a 23 yr old bike if anyone around here would do that!:rotfl: Depends on what you want. the Warden wasn't cheap!! But sure has been worth it!!!

Well, if I buy a new bike for around $15k, its going to cost me another 9 percent Sales Tax in Wa. State. Thats about $1350

I don't think it so much the price, I think the word is out on that big 90 some HP,

fantastic V-4 Engine.

And there just " Ain't " that many of them around anymore !!!

I bought my 84 with 50,000 on it a couple years ago for $1800.

If someone wants to give me $3850 for it now....SOLD:mo money:

Dan, per the quote, are you referring to your bike as the Warden? I always thought you were speaking about yer ole lady. lol

I paid $1800 for my 85 with 35k on it and some bumps amnd bruises. Before that i was shopping for a year . the average selling price on E-bay was around $3000. I saw one go for $4850 with only 8k on it . Bikes like my V65Sabre have been selling for $2500 to $3000 for over ten years. So they've been holding their price for years now but expect prices to rise as people are buying older bikes to beat gas prices.

Theres a market out there for old bikes. Fix up what you have sitting around and make some money. And heres a thought Finding an old 84-85 with the second gear gone. for a thousand or less and even with a stealer fix at a thousand bucks you could still sell it for a profit

I paid 600 for my 84standard in Oct. 06. Just put 1200+ change in rebuilding her from front to back, including 2nd gear, all orings and seals in the motor, etc. Pretty much if it could be rebuilt or replaced, it was. The only thing I didn't have time to do was the final drive. Year old tires (500) and miscellaneous (600-Road Sofa seat) stuff. I'm sure I could get what I invested & most of my labor back out of it if I was to sell it.

BUT WHY WOULD I!!!!!!!!!

It would cost you more to get another one if you sold it, lol. Because you would have to pay the accelerated price and do what you did all over again.

Here's the last 8 '84's that have sold on Ebay. I think you'll notice that milage is king...

16K.........$3850

94K.........$1825

30K.........$2763

12K.........$4500

35K.........$1500

32K.........$2100

4K.........$5,500

94K.........$2600

The selling price is always arbitrary, but if you toss out the 35K/$1500, in so-so condition, it probably would be safe to say between $2200-$2500 for a mid milage '84 in decent condition with second gear still intact.

Now you have to ask also...

How much would you get it you parted it out?

Take the one i just bought.. 1983 venture less then 20k (runs real good)

normal wear (kept outside, would need repaint) all plastic good except front top fairing thats a 5 out of ten.

If you were to part it out how much would you get?

I assume the engine would be the biggest price item?
