bird34man Posted July 29, 2008 #1 Posted July 29, 2008 Has anyone purchased a different seat that was made for a taller rider? Mine is not comfortable on long rides . I would like to be higher and able to scoot back further. dave
Rick Butler Posted July 29, 2008 #2 Posted July 29, 2008 Dave, The only seats for the RS Venture that might satisfy your requirements would be: The Russell Day Long http://www.day-long.com/ Either of the Mayer brothers, whose Dad developed the Day Long before selling to Russell. Rick Mayer http://www.rickmayercycle.com/ Bill Mayer http://billmayersaddles.com/october25homepage.html Mustang does not make a seat for the Venture The Ultimate - maybe http://www.ultimateseats.ca/yamaharoyalstarTD.html The first 3 are the only ones that I'm sure of that would raise you up. And when you go up on the seat with this bike, it allows you to possibly move back some. With the OEM and other aftermarket seats, you are limited to how far you can go back because of the fender. But if you told either of the first 3 what your requirements were, they could certainly build you what you wanted. Not it's going to cost you a pretty penny and I think each one of them will need your OEM seat to work from (or at a minimum use your seat pan). And with modifying the OEM seat you are limited by the material of the cover as to how much you could go up, which would certainly require that you have a new cover made. Hope this helps, Rick
pegscraper Posted July 29, 2008 #3 Posted July 29, 2008 The Corbin Dual Tour seat will do exactly that, set you up a little higher and little farther back. That's exactly what mine did. I'm on the tall side myself, and this seat gave me more leg room than I thought this bike had in it. With the stock seats and a couple others I tried, I felt like I was sitting halfway up on the tank. Some will say that Corbin seats take a long time to break in, but mine fit me perfectly right out of the box. I have some 15,000 miles on it by now, and I don't want anything else.
Freebird Posted July 29, 2008 #4 Posted July 29, 2008 That may be correct for the Royal Star but not for the Venture. I have the Corbin dual touring seat on my RSV and I love it. It does not raise you up though. It does allow you to sit back a bit further but actually lowers you a bit.
pegscraper Posted July 29, 2008 #5 Posted July 29, 2008 Well, I can't actually deny that, but it sounds pretty strange to me. The frame and rear fender of both these bikes is the same in that area. The only real difference is the mounting brackets of the seats. I had even put both the midnight and pillow top seats on my bike for a while, as all the rubber pads set in the same place on the frame. And the Dual Tour seat set me up higher than either of those two did, as well as farther back.
HIGH TECH REDNECK Posted March 5, 2010 #6 Posted March 5, 2010 :doh:Now, I know it's just me but I bought a 2003 Midnight Venture with the studded Corbin seat and would gladly trade anybody for a pillow top or original seat. I hate Corbin and only wish Mustang knew Venture existed. Corbin looks great but I keep sliding down and having to push back again. This is the second Corbin I have owned and I gave the last one away (1998 Honda VT1100T) and got a Mustang and was in love. David Andrews, known as HIGH TECH REDNECK.

Hope this helps, Rick My 03 Venture's seat is not quite as comfy as I would like. Over time, I guess the seat cover around the stitching has stretched some under my sleek, cougar-like butt. End result is my seat foam is soaked....like ring it out and leave a puddle on the floor soaked. Looking around for solutions. I hear Butt Buffer US & Canada are great options. I just got off the phone with Ultimate Seat and they tell me they do not make a seat for Ventures. So, looking for someone in Canada, preferably Ontario, for ease / timeliness as well as avoiding paying Uncle Sam duty at the border. Looking forward to hearing from you guys on this. Thanks Trevor
YamaDuck Posted March 29, 2011 #8 Posted March 29, 2011 Mustang DOES have a driver and passenger seat for the Venture. They came out with it about 6 months ago. A friend has one. It is a firmer seat than the pillow top and it sits you higher. My friend had cut his windshield down and after he got the Mustang for Christmas his windshield was too low so now he needs another windshield.
Pegasus1300 Posted March 29, 2011 #9 Posted March 29, 2011 I have to agree with High Tech.I had a studded Corbin from Yamaha on my 08 RSTD and I had to take it off after 20,000 miles. It was just too hard.It was supposed to break in after a few thousand miles but the only thing that broke was my butt.In the end (no pun intended) I could only ride for about an hour before I hurt so bad I had to get off. I went to Rick Butler and he fixed my stock seats so that they are more comfortable. They don't look as good as the Corbins but they are much more comfortable.I sit a little higher and can move around more.I am 6'2". If you ask maybe he can address this issue for you spacificly.BTW i would be happy to sell the Corbins.
VentureT Posted March 29, 2011 #10 Posted March 29, 2011 Thanks guys. Just got off the phone with Alexis from Butt Buffer Canada. She says, right now, she is looking at a 2 day turn around for seats she receives, either through ride-in or shipped in, for rebuilding. She seems quite knowledgeable and come highly recommended. I think that will be my choice. Rates seem reasonable (less) compared to other seat businesses I have seen on the forum as well http://www.buttbuffercanada.com/ 1.800.891.6946 She does heated seats too.
twigg Posted March 31, 2011 #11 Posted March 31, 2011 Russell appear to be the only ones who truly customise a seat. They aren't even the most expensive, although even they aren't cheap. If you are able to do a "Ride In", they can even make adjustments on the spot. You could call them and talk through the possibilities for your bike before committing to anything.

Does it push the driver forward like most other mustangs? I had one on my Roadie and loved it except that my nuts were on the tank.

David if this offer still stands I'll swap you my pillowtops for your corbin... I took the trunk of mine and the passenger seat is just too big.. Send me a PM and see if we can work this out... I'll send you one and just to show you I'm a sport I'll pay shipping for both seats..
