nkbjones Posted July 29, 2008 #1 Posted July 29, 2008 Well, I took my 4 (almost 5) year old daughter on her 1st road trip this weekend. When I returned from Kitchener (her brother got to go on that trip) she wanted a turn for a road trip on the bike. We traveled 544 miles through the mountains of VA this past weekend including 120 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had beautiful weather and she did GREAT. It was such a nice ride I will prabably take her again in the fall when the leaves are turning.
old hippy Posted July 29, 2008 #3 Posted July 29, 2008 Love the boots. But can she eat as much as Baxter? Way to go. Maybe we'll see her at the rally next year.
waterbug Posted July 29, 2008 #4 Posted July 29, 2008 I bet your daughter had a great time! Mine keeps trying to get me to take her but I havent got a helment for her yet and I will not let her ride with out it. I do have a question, are those arm rests for the passenger on your bike or something else? and were did you get them? Oh and does the sheep skin I see you have help any? My butt gets so hot in the seat of mine I am moving around alot after I ride alittle bit. Thanks and enjoy the time with your kids they grow way to fast!!
Freebird Posted July 29, 2008 #5 Posted July 29, 2008 Very nice. Those are memories that will last the children forever. I'm very happy for you and the kids.
cecdoo Posted July 29, 2008 #6 Posted July 29, 2008 Yep she is a sweetheart, those boots sure are the cats meow, She must be a trooper, 544 miles, you go girl:banana: Craig
nkbjones Posted July 29, 2008 Author #7 Posted July 29, 2008 what a cutie...!!!! Thanks, luckily she takes after her mother:rotf: Love the boots. But can she eat as much as Baxter? Way to go. Maybe we'll see her at the rally next year. Scary enough, she can keep up with her brother pretty well. Guess that means another off duty job is in my future. I bet your daughter had a great time! They are armrest, they are from Diamond R. I actually got them from another member who no longer needed them. I am not sure if they are still making the eagle variety, but I know they have the regular ones. The sheepskin does help, I got mine while in Kitchener and have used it ever since. Seems to really help with the 'monkey butt'.
Dano Posted July 29, 2008 #8 Posted July 29, 2008 I too took a young on a trip today, albeit just around the country "block". My little buddy Nathan from Columbus, Ohio was in town so his Grammy and brother could go to the "YellowFlag" 400. It was his first ride on a bike and he loved it.

Rocket Posted July 29, 2008 #12 Posted July 29, 2008 Well that's a mighty good idea, but I think it will be Baxter for at least the next year or 2....unless of course I can get my wife to come:confused24: The kids keep trying to talk me into getting a sidecar..................I really don't want to, but I may not have a choice here soon. Forget the soon, sounds like you don't have a choice now. Better start looking for one......
RedRider Posted July 29, 2008 #13 Posted July 29, 2008 Very nice. Good call on the seat belt and arm rests. In WI, it is illegal to carry a child under the age of 8. Apparently, that is the age where you can maintain balance when you fall asleep. Hence, younger kids falling out of bed. However, with the seat belt it looks like you have that possibility covered. Also, love the boots. Ride safely. RR
Eck Posted July 29, 2008 #14 Posted July 29, 2008 As already mentioned, those are memories a child will never forget..

PBJ Posted July 29, 2008 #16 Posted July 29, 2008 Of the first time we took our daughter and son on their first long trip into the Adirondacks here in New York. My daughter rode in the sidecar while my then 7 year oldrode behind me belted to the padded backrest. That was back in 97 now they own and ride their own bikes and have escorted me back to the mountains on their own bikes. They are both great riders. Maybe your kids will be riding with you :7_2_104[1]:someday too.
Bummer Posted July 29, 2008 #17 Posted July 29, 2008 I used to take my youngest on rides in the country quite often. She still remembers and bugs me to ride yet today (as a 22 yr old with a 2 yr old of her own). One caveat: At least in Indiana the law requires that the passenger be able to actually put their feet on the passenger foot boards/pegs/whatever. Yes, both at the same time. I clamped some wood blocks to the ones on the '85 so we could start a bit early. A county mounty harrumphed us once, but let it slide. (Not trying to be a wet blanket, honest. Just a heads up.)
gunboat Posted July 29, 2008 #18 Posted July 29, 2008 hi nathan glad to see the pictures of your daughter on the bike, and that she had a great time. sarah's ready to go to the 09' rally. best reguards don c.
nkbjones Posted July 29, 2008 Author #19 Posted July 29, 2008 I used to take my youngest on rides in the country quite often. I clamped some wood blocks to the ones on the '85 so we could start a bit early. A county mounty harrumphed us once, but let it slide. (Not trying to be a wet blanket, honest. Just a heads up.) VA law says that the passenger has to have a place to put their feet, so since she can't reach the boards she using the top of the saddlebag. I got some nonslip cabinet liners and cut them down to put on top of the saddlebag lid so her feet don't slip and it also protects the paint. I am looking into a way of mounting some highway pegs to the front saddlebag crash bar so she can have an actual footpeg and I could also use them as highway pegs for my son. If I ever get it worked out I'll post it up.
nkbjones Posted July 29, 2008 Author #20 Posted July 29, 2008 Give me a call when you do this and I'll come with you. maybe bring Courtney. I found some great roads this past weekend so we'll have to hook up and take the girls on ride this fall.

If I ever get it worked out I'll post it up.Great idea! I have a grandson who'll be glad if you can work it out. Even at 2 he spends nearly as much time in the saddle as I've been able to lately.
Long Tall Posted July 30, 2008 #22 Posted July 30, 2008 Nathan: Great Pix's.....My 5 year old grandson is visiting this week...Grandma got him here from Kentucky this past weekend...First words to Grandpa...."Can we go for a ride on the "big" red motorcycle Grandpa?"......Of course we did.... AmnChode Posted July 30, 2008 #23 Posted July 30, 2008 One caveat: At least in Indiana the law requires that the passenger be able to actually put their feet on the passenger foot boards/pegs/whatever. I believe Texas has that same law...at least from what I hear. But am welcome to be corrected...
Kidh2 Posted July 30, 2008 #24 Posted July 30, 2008 I believe Texas has that same law...at least from what I hear. But am welcome to be corrected... Here's a link to Texas motorcycle laws...you can change the state http://home.ama-cycle.org/amaccess/laws/result.asp?state=TX I can't wait to be able to ride my grandson but here in Louisana the passenger has to be 5 or older.
IH Truck Guy Posted July 30, 2008 #25 Posted July 30, 2008 Hey Baxter, looks like you have serious competition for seat time on the the back of Dad's bike.... Nathan, you better not let Muffin-Man see your daughters PINK boots. Those would match his chaps...:rotfl: Hope you have a great birthday...
