Sideoftheroad Posted July 25, 2008 #1 Posted July 25, 2008 I have checked a parts fiche. year 1999 lists p/n 4XY88143-00-00. All other years lists p/n 4XY88143-10-00. Does anyone know if I can do a direct swap from a newer model year to a 1999 model year? I am just looking at the top antenna piece above the mounting bracket. Thanks.
gibvel Posted July 25, 2008 #2 Posted July 25, 2008 I don't believe it will work and even if it does you've be better off, cost wise, to do the Marshall mod: http://www.bludolphintravel.com/gmg/marshallmod.htm All the parts, including the fold downs (some people don't like these because they have slop in them and wobble back and forth), with shipping, cost a total of $105. The new OEM CB antenna will run you about $150 to $170 for just the one antenna.
Bummer Posted July 25, 2008 #3 Posted July 25, 2008 I'm wondering just how much you need. I have a tip laying around if that's what you're looking for. The part from the black plastic thingie (load) up. I broke the load and replaced both antennas with a single Firefly. Cost about $75 at the time. Theoretically the single antenna system should work better since the FM antenna tends to suck up a bunch of the CB's output power.
bill04 Posted July 25, 2008 #4 Posted July 25, 2008 dont know what is your problem , mine came out of the support while on the road ,took it of cleaned it used some epoxy and wacked it back in and waited for the epoxy to set . Well working like new , waiting for a new one from Yamaha
Sideoftheroad Posted July 26, 2008 Author #5 Posted July 26, 2008 gibvel, I offered one guy $40 for a used cb antenna from an '03. He sent me a picture. Basically everything from the cable to a complete antenna. He said $75. I said no thanks (because of the marshall mod). Just checking other cheaper alternatives 1st. Bummer/bill04, What I really need is below the load. From what I can gather the antenna is just pushed down on top of the mount. If you remove your antenna and look at the bottom of the antenna at that black plastic piece just above the mount, there should be a piece sticking out that is hollowed out in the middle. The piece that sticks out is what I need. It is threaded on the other end. The person that owned the bike previously didn't realize that you just have to pull up on the antenna to remove the antenna, so the piece that sticks out has been destroyed and w/out that piece you can't operate the cb. Or at least you don't want to w/out taking the chance of blowing a (can't remember which one right now) transistor or resistor. Not sure if the piece that sticks out can be taken out w/out destroying it. For those who have done the marshall mod and bought the fold down mount, is the joint held by a screw like the OEM cb antenna fold over adapter? I am thinking about a cheaper alternative that all I would have to buy would be: 1 203ez fold over adapter 1 stud mount # jbc930 oversize 1 18" 18smmpl pre made coax cable My thought is if the fold over adapter is held by a screw at the joint, I can take the screw out of the 203ez adapter and the screw out of the joint on the oem antenna, put the antenna where the top piece of the 203ez adapter used to be and screw it back together. I figure at worse, if it doesn't work, I already have some of the pieces to complete the marshall mod. So far thought I haven't been able to confirm if the 203ez joint is held in by a screw. Can anyone confirm? If you are not sure what I am talking about, I can send pics. Thanks.
Sideoftheroad Posted July 27, 2008 Author #6 Posted July 27, 2008 Question about the marshall mod. For those who don't like the slop from the fold down adapter, what did they do for an adapter? Thanks.
Bummer Posted July 27, 2008 #7 Posted July 27, 2008 Sorry I didn't get back to you more quickly. Yesterday was a busy day. For those who have done the marshall mod and bought the fold down mount, is the joint held by a screw like the OEM cb antenna fold over adapter? Nope. Spring/roll pin. It can be removed. The two folders are completely different, diameters, taper and all. Keep in mind that the antenna out wire uses a Motorola plug on the CB end. CB antenna out is the gray wire in the photo of the radio box on my mod page. I've been told that some have less slop than others, but I have no idea how to tell or if it's enough to matter. For now I've spread the inner part of the folder with a screwdriver, where the roll pin goes through, to make it a bit wider. Less slop, but more difficulty moving the barrel to put it up and down. I'm still looking for a better folder. I'll report it if I ever do.
