venture101 Posted July 24, 2008 #1 Posted July 24, 2008 Seems this subject is getting beat to death, but I have a question about the clamps. I just got a pair of 2005 RG take offs and know I need the brackets from Squidley (when he gets some more made), but what about the clamps. I haven't taken the stock mufflers off yet so may be a little pre mature. Why can't you use the original clamps with the RG mufflers? Also should I drill out the center baffle or the front one and why?
Little Bob Posted July 24, 2008 #2 Posted July 24, 2008 Venture101, I have a 07 midnight and have put on RK mufflers. Punched out both ends and love the sound. When at crusing speed you hardly here them. But when you crack the thottle they a nice low bark. Not to loud for the Mrs as we ride 2up 90% of the time. If you have the clamps for your RK mufflers they will work. Any ? feel free to call Number in my profile. :dancefool::dancefool:
Squidley Posted July 24, 2008 #3 Posted July 24, 2008 Don, I have sets made up now as I was able to procure more steel, so anytime your ready is cool. There have been others that have used the clamps off of the stock mufflers, but you will ruin the stockers by cutting them off. I have always used the aftermarket clamps from V twin as they look stock and work great. Punching the baffles out of the mufflers is just like was mention. It's not loud until you get on it and it barks out nice, not obnoxious. Same here, if you have questions shoot me a PM or call, my #'s in my profile. Here's the link to the clamps that I use. http://www.chopperscycle.com/page/VTS/PROD/42-264/24032
venture101 Posted July 24, 2008 Author #4 Posted July 24, 2008 Thanks for the info. Can't wait to get them installed. May try them without drilling out the baffles first. It's easier to drill them out later than put them back in. Squidley, I sent you a PM about the brackets. Thanks for the clamp site.

venture101 Posted August 3, 2008 Author #6 Posted August 3, 2008 I got the RG mufflers installed today. Really liked the new sound but wanted more under power so drilled out the rear baffles. Wow! I think I got exactly what I was looking for. I am a happy biker. Good thing I have a windshield or my teeth would be full of bugs:big-grin-emoticon: I had to extend the slots in the inlet with a hacksaw to get them all the way on, but not a big problem. Sqidley's brackets worked perfect except for the length of the bolts. Maybe was just these mufflers (05 Road Glide) I got a pair of clamps off e-bay and work fine. If I get flack from my buds, I may go with the wider clamps since they are visible. Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. You really helped me out.
Squidley Posted August 3, 2008 #7 Posted August 3, 2008 Glad to hear that you got them on, enjoy the "new" ride
