SilvrT Posted April 19, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2007 Bike has been parked all winter. Discovered that the rear tire was almost flat (yet it was around 45lbs when I parked it). Checked the tire and noticed a piece of metal like a nail embedded into the tread. Haven't tested for a leak yet but will later tonight. No idea how long it might have been there but recall air pressure dropping about 10lbs over a 2 month time span last summer. The tire is good and is a Avon Venom-X so I really don't want to replace it yet. Can such a thing be fixed? We used to (and probably still do) put plugs in car tires. Can this be done on a m/c tire or what?

BuddyRich Posted April 19, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 19, 2007 I have run several tires with plugs in them. Had a ME880 once with 3 in it. Rode them till they had to be replaced due to lack of tread.
SilvrT Posted April 19, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted April 19, 2007 Rick, scroll down to the Similar Threads listed below and take a look at the postings under the one titled "that old nail in the.....". It should help you. Good luck! That's good info...thanks a bunch. The general consensus appears to be that it's ok to plug the tire and that Ride-On is a good product. I think I'll go with those solutions.
Black Ice Posted April 19, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 19, 2007 Ya, I'd do it. I get my tires from a local fellow who only works on bikes and he patches all the time if its a clean hole and not in the side wall. Cheers
