I was really appauled at the prices that the dealers and people on e-bay wanted for stock mirrors for my 89 VR, that I decided to retrofit my own mirrors to my scoot. It was easy and very inexpencive. I think that the fit looks awsome.:cool10:

Good job, Moby!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who likes their adapted mirrors in close.

For my 84, our local shop crooks wanted to charge me $250 just for one mirror. I told them I'd figure something else out. I found two extra bases on Ebay for $9 and got two aftermarket mirrors for $13 each. I'm very happy with the results.

Very ingenious! I have been thinking of doing something about mirrors. My LHS OEM mirror just won't stay put no matter how much I tighten it down.

The OEM xvz12 mirrors are quite big. All the generic m/c mirrors I have looked at as potential replacements are smaller. Both of these adapted mirrors look smaller than originals.

Does size matter ?

Then there is the issue of plano / convex. Most generic replacements I have found are just flat plano mirrors. I'd like to have convex ones on both sides. Are your replacement ones flat or convex ?

Nice work though!

Thanks,

Yes, the mirrors I used are slightly smaller, but so was the price.:sign woo hoo:

I'm talking $13 US compared to $250 US for an OEM mirror. Mine'll get the job done and it'll pass the state inspection. One thing I did notice though, they have a habit of vibrating loose. I pulled the mirror and lock nut off the shaft and put a liberal amount of Teflon tape on the threads. The problem went away.:thumbsup2:
