Cheap Solution-Antenna Connector

I may be the only RSV rider this has happened to but I wanted to share a cheap solution I found for my cb black plastic antenna connector that broke. First of all, Yamaha doesn't sell the connector, just the whole antenna at $175. From the post I had listed before there were some good ideas but I wanted to keep the OEM appearance if possible without spending $175. Anyway, I took the broken connector to a machine shop and they machined one exactly like the original. I knew the guy who did it and he said it took about 5 minutes and the best part is, didn't charge me anything. I have reassembled the antenna and you can't tell it from OEM. Just thought I'd share what worked for me. You bet I'm happy.

To be honest with you Goose, I never thought about Yamaha covering it. I caught the antenna on my garage door when pulling out and it broke the connector. Thanks for turning on the light.

I have an 06 Midnight and my antenna broke at the plastic connector. Went to the local dealer in Hopkinsville Kentucky, he called Yamaha and 3 days later he installed a new antenna. Now I have to set the standing wave. When I asked the dealer about setting the antenna to match the radio, he again called Yamaha and they told him that there is nothing in the manual about setting the standing wave. Never the less, I got a $175 antenna for free.

Are you talking about the black plastic piece halfway up the antenna? Isn't that the loading coil. I'm certainly no expert, but I don't think you can set the SWR anywhere near correct if you just make a connector to hold the two pieces together. If I'm right, you could damage your CB transmitting with that setup. I hope someone with a little more knowledge will step in here. I hope I'm wrong.

This statment is dead on. Do not use your transmit button without the loading coil in place, IT WILL BLOW YOUR CB. Receiving works ok without the coil but transmit needs a balanced system!!!!!

Is the Antenna on 2nd Gen same as first Gen ??

 

If so, you might have a marketable product here.

Thanks for the good advice all and a special thanks to MarCarl for the call this morning. I did insert the loading coil in the new plastic connector which was machined out to be exactly like the original.

Wheuuuu, you had me worried. Now before you use your CB find someone with a matching meter and match it back up, or it still may burn out. Oh ya, You're welcome, you were only a phone call away, and it seems you have a very pleasant and helpful partner.
