Guest Moby Posted July 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2008 (edited) Can anybody tell me if you can disassemble the mirrors on an 89 VR so as to put different heads on the mounts. Edited July 18, 2008 by Moby
CrazyHorse Posted July 18, 2008 Share #2 Posted July 18, 2008 I believe you can mount regular mirrors on these bikes on the clutch resovoir and brake master cylinder. Pull the plug on brake master cylinder and remove the talking unit on the clutch cylinder.
Squidley Posted July 18, 2008 Share #3 Posted July 18, 2008 The stock mirrors are 1 piece as far as I know, you would have to switch to an aftermarket like Jim mentioned
Kandaje Posted July 19, 2008 Share #4 Posted July 19, 2008 Greetings... It wouldn't be too difficult to make a new 2 hole hard rubber mount. I think about that every time I see an 18 wheeler toss off a section of tread on the hiway! I would think that to that - you could attach just about anything you wanted that would fit! Just be sure to : of anything you create so we can pat you on the back and tell you how nice it looks!! After all - this is POOR man's tips and fixes... sarges46 Posted July 19, 2008 Share #5 Posted July 19, 2008 I think to get at the mirrors you need to remove the signal lights at the front.
mbrood Posted July 19, 2008 Share #6 Posted July 19, 2008 The upper section is secured to the lower with a screw from INSIDE the mirror housing and is factory set for a specified friction. If you pop off the mirror (just two bolts under the rubber boot) you will see the exposed screw threads up inside the lower bracket... So I suppose you COULD cut a slot in the exposed threads and back the screws out and release the upper housing... but then you have a difficult match-up and mounting.
