Brake Pad Posted July 17, 2008 #1 Posted July 17, 2008 I have the 2007 Venture, Today I went for a ride, stopped in my driveway to open the garage door, Pulled the bike in, and the fan was running, I shut the bike off for 10 minutes, and turned the key to check, again the fan, was running. In a hour I'll try again, But this never happened before, and I'm worried.
Eck Posted July 17, 2008 #2 Posted July 17, 2008 In an hour from now if the fan comes on when you turn your key on, then yep, I would say you do have a problem.. (You could place a box fan in front blowing on the radiator to cool it down faster...) In the mean time, you can check a couple things.. remove your drivers seat and check the coolant fluid level... Look underneath the bike, all around, everywhere, for any sings of a coolant leak..
venturejockey Posted July 17, 2008 #3 Posted July 17, 2008 Most likely no problem. They only come on when the engine is hot. Its July, it hot, so my guess its on because of that or it was ridden slowly for a while, or sat and idled for a while. If you go out tomorrow and the fan comes on immediatly you need to have it checked. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.
V7Goose Posted July 17, 2008 #4 Posted July 17, 2008 I wouldn't expect the fan to be on unless you left it idling for at least three or four minutes. But if it really was that hot (approximately 230 degrees), I would not be surprised to have the fan still triggered on after sitting for only 10 minutes - there is an awful lot of heat to dissipate from all that metal and water. Knowing for sure what is going on in a case like this is why I always install full gauges! Even in the hottest weather and relatively slow speeds, the RSV will easily maintain water temp at 220 or below (normal running is right at 212 on both of mine). Fan kicks on around 230, if I remember right, and I have NEVER seen mine go over 240, even when idling for an hour+ in traffic jam at 112 degrees. When the fan kicks in, the temp drops FAST. Goose

Goose Hey Goose. You have gauges on your bike? Temp gauge? What kind/type did you buy and where did you install it/them? Thanks
