Midrsv Posted July 16, 2008 #26 Posted July 16, 2008 I agree with everyone here. The horn is a great safety device and it has pushed many people back into their own lane for me. I do have one humorous story to relate about the horn. Shortly after installing the Stebel horn I was headed to my mother's place one morning and a mile or so before I get to her home there is a school for problem (behavioral) students and there were two teen-agers strolling down the middle of the road with an attitude as if to dare anyone to hit them. You know the type with the crotch of their pants below their knees. As I approached I saw a car have to stop and wait for them to get out of the road, there are no sidewalks there. They jumped back out in the middle of the road walking away from me and waited for the next car to come along. However, I was next and with the stock pipes the bike is pretty quiet and I was closing on them at the speed limit and there was no oncoming traffic my plan was to pass in the left lane so by the time they heard me they heard a very good blast of the horn just behind them. At that time one kid jumped for the ditch and the other one tried to run and couldn't, remember the crotch down to his knees, so he fell on his ass. As I passed I looked back in the mirror and they just looked stunned and couldn't quite figure out what hit them. That horn put a smile on my face all day. DT
MiCarl Posted July 17, 2008 #27 Posted July 17, 2008 I have a pair of the Bad Boyz on my VR. Only fired them in anger once. Guy started to swerve in my lane when the delivery truck ahead of him stopped. I pushed him back with them and I was 1/2 mile down the road before he tried to change lanes again. He was very careful the 2nd time.
RedRider Posted July 17, 2008 #28 Posted July 17, 2008 You should use the bracker from CarbonOne to mount the Stebel in place of the stock horn. Purchase the wiring kit and it comes with the relay. When you mount it, the wiring comes out the bottom, right next to the pipes. A good suggestion made by someone on here, that I utilized, is to drill a couple of holes in the side horn housing (plastic at the bottom), string the wire thru, and solder them on the appropriate lugs. Fill the bottom cavity with silicon caulk, and you are good to go without fear of melting the insulation all over your shiny pipes. RR
V-4 Vendetta Posted July 17, 2008 #29 Posted July 17, 2008 The Stebel is worth it's weight in gold not only for protection but as you mentioned...laughs! I had a couple of teenage girls about to pull out in front of me on a service road. I could see them from quite a ways off and just knew they were going to do it. I had already slowed down and had my thumb on the horn button just waiting. Sure enough the driver never looked and started to pull out. I laid on the horn then nearly fell off the bike laughing! The poor girl was scared so bad she jumped and bounced her head off of the ceiling before hitting the brakes. After I passed her I don't think she moved for awhile. I hope she kept her underwear dry!

For the price differance and the convenience of just picking it up there I think it would loud enuff for me. 118 dbs is getting up pretty good. It looks just like the Stebel for a lot less money. BigShell Posted July 17, 2008 #31 Posted July 17, 2008 I don't have two Stebels, but I haven't lost a "HORN-OFF" yet! I'm sure there are louder setups out there, but mine will get your attention. I mounted my Stebel under the trunk right behind the HD lights I added. Under the air boxes I mounted a Highway Blaster (low tone on one side, high tone on the other). I've seen some posts where folks were not pleased with the loudness from the Highway Blasters. They are rated at 132 db and I believe it! They are loud enough for me. When I hit the horn button, the Stebel, the two Highway Blasters, and both stock horns go off and heads turn.
