Two more Fatalities

It has been a bad weekend in this area. The first accident happened at 2am Sunday morning when a 30 yr old rider drove into the back of police cruiser at a high rate of speed totally destroying the bike and also totaled the cruiser.

The second was on Sunday evening when a 21 yr old girl pulled out of a driveway and onto the highway, the Harley driven by a 55 yr old man tried an evasive maneuver but hit the car in the drivers door sending him through the air, he passed away from his injuries this morning.

I guess you have to be ever vigilant of your surroundings, but you can't control what other people do, I'm sure everyone becomes more cautious when something like this happens.

The girl pulling out in front of the rider hit close to home for me. I know not everyone agrees but I still believe the headlight modulator is the single best piece of safety equipment we can put on our bikes.

Having said that I also think there needs to be a public education program to teach everyone what the flashing headlight is all about. There's just not enough bikes out there with this installed and most people don't know what it is, bikers included. I've had more than one biker stop to tell me my headlight was flashing.

I agree, there should be increased vigilance on the part of riders and I agree with the addition of devices which make us more visible. What I disagree with is that it always has to fall to US to have to "be more careful" or "be more visible". All too many times a car driver gets a pass because "I just didn't see them"!

 

The number of bikes is increasing not decreasing and the number of wrecks goes right with that. So, I feel that the laws should be amended to make the penalties MUCH higher than they are now. I don't know about other states, but, here, if you pass a school bus improperly, they will crucify you and your insurance goes immediately to 3 or 4 times normal cost for 3 years. They cut no slack and accept no excuses. They do that for the mere RISK of hurting a child, which is fine....they should! I can say with certainty, if there's one part of the vehicle law that people know it's that one! So, I ask the question, why not put some teeth in the law for motorcyclists? That coupled with increased emphasis in the manuals and training and testing for drivers licenses and this stuff will be reduced and dramatically, IMHO!

Friday night we had a high speed chase with the law and a pickup truck thru city streets. The pickup slammed in to the back of a 17 year old kid on a motorcycle, killing the kid. How do you deal with stupidity like that?

Last week a 29 year veteran with the OPP hit a car Died instantly,

We had one here too, some out of town bikers pulled over on the side of I-75 to put on rain gear and a car started a chain reaction accident on the slick roads and one of the cars was sent flying into the bikers on the side, injuring several and killing a women who was riding one of the bikes............and it was a hit and run, the person responsible for the accident left the scene............Thats why when it starts raining and I need to don rain gear, its off the road to a safe spot to do so..............but it still shouldnt have happened..........

My prayer go out to those riders and their families..........

I agree from experience having been running a Kriss for over a year now. Modulators work on cattle and deer also.
