Strange Oil situation

Last Friday, I got together with Rob and Charlie in Mississauga, and did my 2nd oil change, and synch'd my carbs. With the oil, we changed both oil and filter. I put in the Yamalube 20/50. The 3 of us checked the oil level, started the bike ran it, let the oil settle and left it at halfway on the sight glass. Very strange, I checked the level today with the bike level again, and now the oil is full on the sight glass. We put in 3.2 litres, as an estimate from the jug. Where the heck did the extra oil come from? We fully drained the crankcase, and removed filter. I don't see any oil dripping, but how could it be more full without adding any oil? Just one of those unexplained mysteries I guess.

Was the bike placed in an 'upright and level" position when you checked the oil level the FIRST time?

All I can say is you had to have added to much...taking it time to drain downward to the bottom where the site glass is located...

That's about 3.38 US quarts. What is the MFG's advertized capacity?... seems that's appx the max you'd put in to fill `er to the top mark?? Is it possible when you ran it up, you didn't wait long enuf for the oil to drain back down, and when you checked it again, it had.

Unless you are measuring it with a stand in the exact same place on your driveway each time, the differences might not be real. Most driveways slope one way or another. Using a stand, this will change the level in the window if the bike is pointed a different direction. I have also found that when I have someone hold the bike, it is usually different than when I use a 4x4 block that just barely lets it stand straight up. I find that people tend to have the bike lean a bit toward whatever side they are standing on!
