Guest kleis.hensen Posted July 17, 2008 #176 Posted July 17, 2008 Consider the beautiful Adirondack Park mountain area in NY with easy access to the park from Ontario and the surrounding states all coming in on Interstate 81,87 or 90. Great riding with unforgetable scenery and history as well as lots of excellent camping areas to choose from.
Jerry W Posted July 17, 2008 #177 Posted July 17, 2008 I agree with Colorado Springs. Big enough to accomodate most anything we want to do and great places to ride.
Kidh2 Posted July 17, 2008 #178 Posted July 17, 2008 There have been 2 people suggest New Orleans. I would love it here as I live 70 miles away. But during this time of year there are 2 kinds of weather down here. They are "hot as hell" and "hot as hell, with rain". I would love it here as we have the best food in the world but, there are many other places that are better to ride than here. We also have good places to fish but these ventures don't ride on top of the water. I would suggest northern Arkansas for the beauty and rodes to ride or the Texas hill Country for the same reasons. It's true that there are cooler temperatures and better rides all around the country but as Squidley so eloquently put it : "Personally it really doesn't matter to me, curvy roads are nice, but the rally should be about the comeraderie of the group. Most folks will travel a few thousand miles to attend a rally so burning up the miles isn't an issue. From a personal standpoint, I would like to see a lot more BSing and getting to know folks as opposed to pounding out the miles on the bikes." The ride from most folks home to whatever the final destination is will bring us through some of the most scenic rides in the US. There are many group activities that can be had down south outside of riding and the city is designed to accomodate and entertain large groups. This is a great site....with good people....it'll be nice to put some faces to names where ever we end up!!!
infonaut Posted July 17, 2008 #179 Posted July 17, 2008 Eastern Pennsylvania! Lots of Ventures here, fantastic roads and countryside, and I'd love to be part of organizing it with some other local riders.
Rocket Posted July 17, 2008 #180 Posted July 17, 2008 Why not start the 2009 rally on the East coast somewhere, AND the west coast somewhere...??? Have the two groups head to the geographical centre of the USA... My google map estimate is "OMAHA NEBRASKA"... Then have two planning committee's, East and West, and their job is solely to arrange the route from their coast in to Omaha, including sights to see(5 min. pic stops), an itinerary map so people can plan to join the group when it gets closer to their home/state, and assure that there will be enough hotels in the area where the group is spending the night... Then have two large groups converging together for a day or two, just to meet, talk, swap stories and whatnot... No rides planned or anything like that, the journey to the meet IS THE RIDE.. Everybody will be tired so just sit around, rest, and get to know everyone... Or the geographical centre of North America...... As the sign I saw yesterday, at Rugby, North Dakota.......
Ozark Posted July 17, 2008 #181 Posted July 17, 2008 Branson Missouri would be a very good location. Beautiful country, nice riding area, plenty of rooms at good prices, good eats, good shopping. A little bit of everything for everyone, even waterworld, amusement park, lake access, Silver Dollar City, and so much more. The rally is about fellowship and getting together with friends, but there are times during a big rally when some would just like some options. For what it is worth, that's just my two cents worth.
RedRider Posted July 17, 2008 #182 Posted July 17, 2008 West Bend, WI They held the International BMW rally there last year and it was great success. I understand out rally would require a few more resources than the BMW folks, but West Bend can stock up on beer beforehand. RR
Wrongway Posted July 17, 2008 #183 Posted July 17, 2008 Or the geographical centre of North America...... As the sign I saw yesterday, at Rugby, North Dakota....... Hey Rocket, I hit Rugby last year on my way home from Ft. Collins via BC. A whole lot of nothing going on eh?
Rocket Posted July 17, 2008 #184 Posted July 17, 2008 Hey Rocket, I hit Rugby last year on my way home from Ft. Collins via BC. A whole lot of nothing going on eh? That describes the prairies in general, USA or CDN side of the border...........
nelsonrl Posted July 17, 2008 #185 Posted July 17, 2008 Austin Texas - close enough to the Texas Hill country for some great hill country rides and 6th street for entertainment. And you might see a bat or two under the Congress Ave. bridge in the evenings. BTW, am I eligible to submit a vote, you know being the black sheep and all.

You are from my original part of the country anyway, born and roots in Lufkin. BTW,It would turn heads all the Ventures at the ROT Rally !
Lynbiker Posted July 17, 2008 #187 Posted July 17, 2008 Lake George,New York - There is a reason the Worlds Largest Touring Rally has been here for the last 26Yrs.Especially in early Sept.doesnt get much better than that!!

I understand out rally would require a few more resources than the BMW folks, but West Bend can stock up on beer beforehand. RR Good one Jeff. It was pretty cool to see all the beemers all over town..
dr_bar Posted July 18, 2008 #189 Posted July 18, 2008 Red Lodge, MT Close enough to ride Beartooth Pass, Chief Joseph, visit Yellowstone National Park, Little Big Horn etc. Dave I'd like to second Red Lodge, MT as a location for the 2009 rally. As already stated, there is some beautiful country to see and then there's Beartooth... http://www3.telus.net/drbar/pics/Red%20Lodge%20to%20Red%20Lodge.jpg
Guest kenosborne Posted July 18, 2008 #190 Posted July 18, 2008 My vote is motorcycle friendly New Hampshire. It provides lots of backroads riding from town to town and has a nice ocean beach and many nice lakes
Guest texasyamahamama Posted July 18, 2008 #191 Posted July 18, 2008 My vote is for the Four Corners Durango,CO suggestion. My second choice would any where else in Colorado. It's beautiful country. The ride through Silverton and Ouray is spectacular. My kid wants to go to Mesa Verde and see how loud his pipes sound in the tunnel. As long as I'm not in the tunnel at the same time! Jackie
Condor Posted July 18, 2008 #192 Posted July 18, 2008 (edited) How about Jackson Hole Wyo. Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and the Cowboy Bar... San Diego 1,016 miles Dallas 1,397 miles Chicago 1,392 miles Thunder Bay Ont. 1,430 miles Seattle 875 miles DesMoines..1037 miles I did run into a map making tool, and thought 'what the heck'. So this is what I came up with. As you can see the majority of the Venture Rider Population is located east of the Mississippi, and even though Texas is the largest populated state, if you clump a few of the Lake Michigan states together and include the provence of Ontario with 264 members into the group it really makes a mass of members in one geographical location. What does it prove? I donno, maybe we should be looking at a rally site closer to those folks??? Edited July 20, 2008 by Condor
Squidley Posted July 18, 2008 #193 Posted July 18, 2008 I have mentioned this before, but it's worth saying again. What I envisioned with the International Rallys (and this statement is not about me) is swapping east to west from year to year. It's not realistic that the west coasters would have traveled almost 3000 miles to get to Kitchener. It's also not fair that way for the New Englanders to go to California for a Rally. I know this is for the contest, and we'd all like to be close to our own states, but I would like to see as many folks be able to show up from the North American contingent as possible. We will still have local mini rallys and such like Venture West and Ashville, but for the Big one, the International I would like to see it be fair about miles folks have to travel.....just babbling
Skid Posted July 18, 2008 #194 Posted July 18, 2008 It is hard to be fair to everyone, and pick a place that several members doesn't have a couple thousand miles to get there. Only thing I can suggest is having it back and forward like Squid said, but has the last two International Rallies been more toward the north? So maybe next one can be more to the southern border.......
1BigDog Posted July 18, 2008 #195 Posted July 18, 2008 Since this is an International Rally why not have it at our favorite location..... International Dairy Queen Corporation 7505 Metro Blvd. Minneapolis, MN 55439-0286 Phone: (952) 896-8696
jneed53 Posted July 19, 2008 #196 Posted July 19, 2008 Northeastrn Texas, Northwestern Ark., Southern Mo. All have abundant riding territory and accomodations. They are each near the center of the universe. The riding is especially good around Eureka Springs, Ar. Any would be great.
bigbob Posted July 19, 2008 #197 Posted July 19, 2008 Red Lodge, MT Close enough to ride Beartooth Pass, Chief Joseph, visit Yellowstone National Park, Little Big Horn etc. Dave:fingers-crossed-emo Good place. Bigbob
Redneck Posted July 19, 2008 #198 Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) I vote west Texas. Every one can see what hell will be like:rotf: it is also like going to Mexico with out crossing the border. There would be lots of bsing going on because there are no good places to ride and it will be hot as hell. All the hotels are full of oilfield workers but I have plenty of ground I can scrape a couple of acres of mesquites off for camping. If any pond monsters show up in my pond we can shoot em. You can all test your riding skill on the 1.5 mile dirt road going to my house. We can be as loud as we want because the closest neighbor is 3 miles away. Is this sounding like fun yet? If things get boring we can call in some coyotes and see if we have any shooters in the group. Heck I'm starting to get excited This could be one hell of a party. Ruidoso cloudcroft NM is a great area good weather biker friendly casino. I am about 300 miles away and would be willing to help organize it. http://www.ruidoso.net/ Edited July 19, 2008 by Redneck
Skid Posted July 19, 2008 #199 Posted July 19, 2008 As I said earlier about going south, Texas could be a good place to start looking around......

Hey Brad, when we get together again, I'm going to miss that ol 99 parked next to my 99, thems was a good year. But new is always better, less to worry about. Wish I had the stamina to ride out and visit you and Lonna like you guys did when you came to visit us in Susanville, would be great to see the rest of the states on my ride................maybe some day?? :confused24:Sorry Squid, I must be tired when I said I second that babble Brad, nite-nite.
