Bummer Posted July 11, 2008 #1 Posted July 11, 2008 I just got out of the Grand hospital (which isn't really all that grand) - my appendix burst Monday night. Kind of put the kibosh on the rest of the rally for us. Naturally I failed to get any phone numbers on the first morning. No heavy lifting for six weeks. Six weeks. Gaaa. So, I'm not going to be able to ride home. We are setting up to have our daughter come up in the pickup. Of course we have no ball/wiring/trailer, but hey, one thing at a time. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
BuddyRich Posted July 11, 2008 #2 Posted July 11, 2008 Put the bike in a storage unit till you can come back for it? If no one has a trailer you can borrow. And if they do who is gonna get the beast on it and tied down ?
Wizard765 Posted July 11, 2008 #3 Posted July 11, 2008 Put the bike in a storage unit till you can come back for it? If no one has a trailer you can borrow. And if they do who is gonna get the beast on it and tied down ? There are a few folks in the Kitchener area that I'm sure would be happy to load the bike on a trailer and secure it. What about setting up a relay? How far from home are you?
Mariner Fan Posted July 11, 2008 #4 Posted July 11, 2008 Steve, My pickup is set up for towing. You are welcome to use it if you can find a bike trailer to borrow. EDIT - I would be willing to help out on a relay. Just let me know. Bob
Bummer Posted July 11, 2008 Author #5 Posted July 11, 2008 Buddy, storage would give me a chance to get the truck prepped. Definatly have to keep that in mind. Wizard, we're about 500 miles from home. So near yet so far. Bob, thanks. I'll keep it in mind. Unfortunately this means I won't be able to lead/attend the July Meet & Eat. Thanks guys.

So near yet so far. Bob, thanks. I'll keep it in mind. Unfortunately this means I won't be able to lead/attend the July Meet & Eat. Thanks guys. Don't worry about the July M&E. We have plenty of time to get another ride in. Sorry about your appendix. Your probably feeling like you were run over by a truck right now!
Mariner Fan Posted July 11, 2008 #7 Posted July 11, 2008 If we can put together a relay, I might be able to scare up a trailer.
RedRider Posted July 11, 2008 #8 Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) If you can find someone you trust to ride it home, Air Canada has a flight for $261, one way, out of Indy into Toronto (50 miles) tomorrow. Leaves at 9:20 am. Would be cheaper than gas and a hotel room for driving up and back. How are YOU getting home? Sorry to hear of your misfortune. My wife just had her's out a couple of months ago. It wasn't very pretty. If you needed to get to WI, it might be a good ride for me. However, having just gotten home from a 10 day trip ..... The locks would be changed when I got home. Good luck and get feeling better soon. RR PS. At least it is a 2nd Gen, so whoever is riding it will surely get home. Edited July 11, 2008 by RedRider
RedRider Posted July 11, 2008 #9 Posted July 11, 2008 You may want to contact ReinyRooster (Reinhard Schmidt). His phone number is in his profile. It would provide you a local contact for logistics. RR
RedRider Posted July 11, 2008 #10 Posted July 11, 2008 Or, the person could fly into Buffalo, NY (115 miles from Kitchner) and not deal with international flights. $142 one way on US Air. RR
Guest Swifty Posted July 11, 2008 #11 Posted July 11, 2008 I'm making calls. I'm driving out to Indy in my HHR, with hitch and trailer, tomorrow...hmmm, could it tow a trailer with my little trailer and your bike on it??
V7Goose Posted July 11, 2008 #12 Posted July 11, 2008 I'd be happy to ride your bike anywhere you need it - the only thing I would ask is that you cover my transportation to the bike and from the destination back to DFW. I know that probably won't help you much, but I thought I would offer it anyway.
Guest BluesLover Posted July 11, 2008 #14 Posted July 11, 2008 I have a trailer (it is an open trailer) that I would offer up for use, but of course, I would need to have it back at some point. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to be able to pick up the bike, deliver it to Indy and return back home. Let me know if you need to use it. Cheers,
Dano Posted July 11, 2008 #15 Posted July 11, 2008 I'm making calls. I'm driving out to Indy in my HHR, with hitch and trailer, tomorrow...hmmm, could it tow a trailer with my little trailer and your bike on it?? Swifty, if you could get a uhaul trailer with electric brakes and big enuff for your trailer and the bike, would probably be around 1500 pounds. Even if you get close enough south of the border, I'm sure we can get a relay going. Plenty of people twixt here and there. Just thinking----Squidley, Don, Pegscraper, mariner Fan, me. Thats Michigan to Indy. Not speaking for anyone else, of course. I'll be glad to head up the 26th if everyone still wants to go. Heck, I'll even mount your camera to my bike for ya, Bummer!!! Dan
pegscraper Posted July 11, 2008 #16 Posted July 11, 2008 When can it be picked up? I assume it's also in Kitchener? Are you there by yourself? How are you getting yourself back home? The wife and I are in Owen Sound right now, just a couple hours or so north of you. My most recent understanding from the boss is (and you know how that goes) that we're heading for home Sunday, that being Fort Wayne area. I'd be willing to ride it home for you. I think that I could pick it up any time between now and then. My problem is that we drove the car, meaning I don't have a helmet with me, which I believe is law here in Canada. Let me know if I can help out.
Freebird Posted July 11, 2008 #17 Posted July 11, 2008 If anybody can get it even close to my house, I could get it on down to at LEAST Cincinnati, maybe even all the way to Indie if I need to. I have a trailer here so whomever gets it this far could take their trailer back with them.
Mariner Fan Posted July 11, 2008 #18 Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) Just get it semi close to me and I'll take it to Indy. I could go to Cincy or up North (Fort Wayne) if that is the way you go. Edited July 12, 2008 by Mariner Fan
Sweetnothing Posted July 12, 2008 #19 Posted July 12, 2008 Let us know what we can do!! We do have a trailer, and a vehicle to pull it with! Tomorrow is Saturday....most of us have it off, we could get it going. Are you still in the hospital? Are you able to take the trip home? Keep us in the loop, and we can get you and your bike taken care of! Hope you are feeling OK!
86er Posted July 12, 2008 #20 Posted July 12, 2008 I'm making calls. I'm driving out to Indy in my HHR, with hitch and trailer, tomorrow...hmmm, could it tow a trailer with my little trailer and your bike on it?? You can trust Swifty with your bike.......as long as he doesn't have to take it through any front doors! Sorry about your appendix. I went through that in '91. But the hospital screwed the pooch with me. I went to the ER with high temp and stomach pain, three nurses did the reflex test, where they press on your abdomen and release. It didn't hurt, then a male nurse came in and pressed really hard and released it.... THAT HURT. I think that is when it burst. They put me in the OR immediately! Then they taped the incision with the wrong tape. I had peritonitis and my stomach was swelling but the tape wouldn't release so it was tearing the skin around it. I was in the hospital 10 days and they almost killed me! I didn't have insurance and they only sent me 1 bill for $32,000! I didn't pay it and they never came after me or hit my credit report with it. I think they knew they screwed up bad and didn't want to press and have me go to a lawyer. Hmmmm...maybe it's not too late? I call my scar (and it's ugly!) "My Lexus". I hope you get feeling better soon! Be happy you're headed home and still alive!

And if you need a way home yourself, you might as well get in our car. I'm thinking I'm about your straightest, easiest shot. I'll PM you my mother's number where we're staying.
Mariner Fan Posted July 12, 2008 #22 Posted July 12, 2008 Steve I'm guessing you are resting from your surgery. As you can see we are ready to help out so feel free to give any of us a call. We are waiting and willing to help!
Bummer Posted July 12, 2008 Author #23 Posted July 12, 2008 Sorry to be a bit slow responding. I had to lay down for a while. BradT and Rhonda just left with the bike. They're keeping it in their garage until I can get back up to get it or it gets relayed - however that works out. Swifty's going to drop us off at home - he's heading to BC the long way and kindly offered to make it a bit longer. We sincerely appreciate ALL the offers of help. Sorry to cut it short, but I'm still more than a little woozy from the pain killers and the entire experience. Can't thank you guys enough.

We are waiting and willing to help! Steve, sorry to hear of your misfortune. Wish we would have known. We're home now and I have a trailer available and it is only Friday night. it can get to your house by Sunday night I'm sure. Keep me in the loop, I can help if you need it.

Maybe someone in the Kitchener group has some ramps you can borrow... You'll also need 4 good ratchet straps.. It worked for Me on my trip to Daytona Bike Week and back... Good Luck and I hope you're feeling better.
