pick Posted July 11, 2008 #1 Posted July 11, 2008 Ok, just installed the new venoms! can't wait to try them out! What pressures everyone running? I do a lot of two up riding. Also, load limits just under 900#? Kinda light for an 875# bike?
mikemc143 Posted July 11, 2008 #2 Posted July 11, 2008 I just had new Avon Venoms put on last week at the dealer and his recommendation was 36 psi front and 42 psi rear. Big difference with these tires on. Now I roll right into the turns real nice. I just replaced the Dunlops but the front tire appeared to be cupping on the edge and it resisted going into the turns but I attribute that probably to the worn out tire. Mike:cool10:
pick Posted July 11, 2008 Author #3 Posted July 11, 2008 I too replaced 404's. Was only geting 7-8k outta my rear tire. Front seemed fine? Went with the MT 90 front, see how that handles?
Yammer Dan Posted July 11, 2008 #4 Posted July 11, 2008 Rear tire mileage is in the right wrist. Don't ask me how I know that and I won't tell you about the Avon Venom I got 5600 miles out of on the rear and thread was showing BAD!!
pick Posted July 11, 2008 Author #5 Posted July 11, 2008 Hmmmmmmmmm...I don't think I'm that hard on the wrist, but still hope that I can get somewhere in the neighboorhood of 10k outta the rear?
V7Goose Posted July 11, 2008 #6 Posted July 11, 2008 I don't baby it at all,and I get 14,000 - 16,000 out of a Venom on the rear. I do a lot of local riding and long distance touring, both. I run the rear between 46 and 48 - anything over 48 produces very poor handling on the RSV. You can find in-depth discussions of my thoughts on this in older threads. Front is around 42. I'd suggest you start with 46 rear, 40 front and see how that feels. Goose
Eck Posted July 11, 2008 #7 Posted July 11, 2008 One suggestion from one friend to another: Once you begin to take off on your "new Avon sneakers", do not think you know the bike, for it will handle totally different... I sugggest you carefully ride it down the street to a local "large empty paved parking lot" and then ride it by making figure 8's so you can see how it handles prior to hitting the road...
royalstarjac Posted July 11, 2008 #8 Posted July 11, 2008 I run 48 in back and 42 in front. The more pressure you run, the more miles you'll get from them. They run cooler at higher pressures.-Jack
pick Posted July 11, 2008 Author #9 Posted July 11, 2008 thanks all! I think I'll start around 42/46 and adjust from there. Hopefully I can get out today and try them out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Billet Posted July 11, 2008 #10 Posted July 11, 2008 You're going to love em! And assuming you got the load range "C" I run 48 rear and 38 front. These are way different tires than Yamaha puts on so ignore the factory specs.
