My understaning is that 05 and newer have a cat in one muffler and should not be run stock on our bikes as it would cause uneven pressure on the engine.

I have a set of 06 that I modified as follows. Take a hole saw that is somewhat larger than the small outlet pipe on the rear of the mufflers and saw through the rear cones.

The inside pipes will then slide out easily. The one with the cat will be of a different configuration than the other, but they will both slide out without any trouble. When they are removed, you will see a cylinder of mesh wire holding insulation against the outer walls of each muffler. Leave these in place.

Cut the small pipes off the cones 1-2 inches from the cones and weld the cones back in place.

These are a little louder than the stock Harley mufflers, but they aren't too loud. I have a set of stocks, but these are my favorites. They sound like a 57 Chevy with glasspacks on. They will talk if you crank on it. Good luck.

I have RK pipes, but since they don't have the catalytic converter, so I wasn't going to bother to reply... but you changed my mind.

Search is your friend. I did a search on 'catalytic' and got 27 hits. In one, Denden describes what he did with the cat:

I'll let you look at the other 26 to see if they have anything useful to you in them.

Here's a suggestion - why don't those of you who want to use newer RK mufflers just get together ans swap one - that way you will either have both cats or both non-cat? :080402gudl_prv:

I put a pair of 06, slash cuts on my 05 RSTD.

To remove the catylitic converter, drill a series of say, 1/4" holes around the outside of the converter (near each other) and from the other end knock it out. It's very simple.

You will need a long drill bit.

I just put a set of 05 RKs on. Looking into both ends of both pipes I could not see any difference. I could not see all the way through either one of them, some kind of offset in the middle, So not sure if I have a cat or not???

It does seem to me that one side sounds slightly different than the other, but my left side hearing is also slightly damaged.
