georgew48 Posted July 9, 2008 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2008 Got the new I basket installed today. Raining so I haven't had a chance to see if it made a difference or not. Brought the bike home in the trailer. Just driving into the trailer it sounded quieter. Will know in the morning when I ride it to work.
TEW47 Posted July 9, 2008 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2008 Hope it is quiet. Took mine in two weeks ago, to change out the clutch basket, and they have not got aroung to it yet. tew47
Eddy Posted July 9, 2008 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2008 Had mine replaced on the 07 about 2 weeks ago and if there's a difference I can't hear it. Still whines like crazy, just with a newer basket????? Eddie
georgew48 Posted July 9, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted July 9, 2008 Great news, the whine is completely gone and I don't mean my wife. It's soooo nice to just hear the engine/exhaust and not that stupid George Jetson chirp. I did find two small nicks on my right saddle bag that weren't there when I dropped the bike off. I can fix easily with touch up paint. Small price to pay to get rid of the chirp.
georgew48 Posted July 9, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted July 9, 2008 Eddy, did you check to m ake sure it was the "I" basket they installed. I made them show me the new basket before they installed it so i could confirm it was the right one.
roadwarrior Posted July 27, 2008 Share #6 Posted July 27, 2008 I had my I-basket installed last week and the dealer said to expect to see a 40% reduction in noise. After riding it a couple of time I think it has been reduced about 50 or 60%. Yama Mama Posted July 27, 2008 Share #7 Posted July 27, 2008 For those of us who are past the 5 year warranty; would you have any idea of what the "I"basket costs. I think I have to convince my husband we need to get one. He is complaining more and more about the whine. Either that or I am going to have to steal the batteries out of his hearing aid. TEW47 Posted July 27, 2008 Share #8 Posted July 27, 2008 Got mine back after clutch basket change. It was quiet as a church mouse for about ten miles and then started whining again, but not as bad. One type of noise went completly away and the whine stops at about 60 mph. So I guess is is alittle better, even put Mobil 4t in and got better mpg. tew47
