Seaking Posted July 8, 2008 #1 Posted July 8, 2008 On the Venture, what are indications that you need to synch up the carbs? On the VStar, you can easily tell by the mirror buzz etc.. Right now on the 06 Venture, I get mirror buzz on either side depending on speed/revs.. and when in 5th gear and going roughly 55-65 mph the bike feels 'bumpy'.. not like it's lugging or underpowered.. but certainly isn't smooth.. Would this be an indication of the carbs needing to be synchronized? Cheers
Guest Boomerbiker Posted July 8, 2008 #2 Posted July 8, 2008 The more knowledgeable folks may be able to provide a technical answer to your question. I've had two second gens and depending on the rpm/gear and speed one or the other of the mirrors will vibrate.
Yammer Dan Posted July 8, 2008 #3 Posted July 8, 2008 Do your hands tingle after riding a while?? Good sign they need synced.
az1103 Posted July 8, 2008 #4 Posted July 8, 2008 Rough or uneven idle, overheating, poor mileage, backfiring . Can be all of the above or just one or two. The sinc. procedure is very quick and simple so if there is any doubt you should probably do it.

I just completed a trip to California and the south west. Did over that mileage and felt "lumpy' or 'bumpy' by the time I got back. . Re did them today Less than 30 mins with the Carbtune. Now runs much smoother. 1154
Sideoftheroad Posted July 9, 2008 #6 Posted July 9, 2008 Got one mirror that vibrates and my hands tingle. Dealer said they just sync'd them before I bought the bike. Would like to know how to do it and see how I come out compared to the dealer.
V7Goose Posted July 9, 2008 #7 Posted July 9, 2008 This bike normally runs very smooth (as long as you don't lug the engine by trying a hard roll-on below 65 in 5th gear). If you think you have significant vibration at all, it probably needs to be synced. I find that most dealers do a very poor job of synchronizing the carbs, but no way of really knowing until you see it done yourself. Only after you have ridden the bike after you KNOW it was synced correctly will you have the necessary baseline to compare and know if it needs it or not. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
BradT Posted July 9, 2008 #8 Posted July 9, 2008 One sign is backfiring, unless you have plugged the AIS. Mine will backfire when I am in need of a sync. Normally I notice it with the choke on, then eventually it will back fire with the choke off BRad
Seaking Posted July 9, 2008 Author #9 Posted July 9, 2008 Many thanks to all who responded.. Yes, there is a hand vibe as well, more noticeable before I put the ISO Grips on the bike last week and 'lumpy' describes it well in certain gears / speeds.. No backfiring though. Mileage is decent.. but vibrating mirrors, numb hands and lumpy ride are my indicators.. I'll be booking an appointment at a local independent shop to have the carbs sync'd. I bought the bike used with 24,000 miles on it so not sure if it had ever been done. I could possibly do it myself but never seen it done before. Is there a decent manometer kit available and decent 'how to' docs somewhere available as well? Thanks again!!
Tartan Terror Posted July 9, 2008 #10 Posted July 9, 2008 Maybe a local member to you can help. If you take it to the dealer for that you will spend lots of money for what is really just a 15min process and so many of us here have the tool why spend it when you can have a GTG for coffee and a carb sync. I do it for anyone in my area that wants to save about 200. Also if you are handy you will spend less buying the Morgan carb tune and doing it per the Tech article on this site (Yamahas book is wrong). Its so easy to do if you have any mechanical ability.
