Ronda and I are planning a trip in late September and early October. We plan on heading out to Yosemite National Park, then working our way up the coast to Seattle before making our way home. One of the places that we want to see is a beach that we saw on the Travel Channel several years ago. It is a beach with massive pillars of rocks and tidal pools that of course is only accessible when the tide is out. I think it is on the coast of Oregon, but it could be Washington. With all of our members, surely someone knows the place. Thanks

George S out of Renton might be able to give you an answer as that's his territory. I've already done Yosemite twice this year as its only 165 miles from my house in Livermore. Did the valley on the first ride, and then went up to Glacier Point on the second ride, truely magnificent scenery. Be safe and heres a couple of pics to get you started, this is off season which is best, you have the whole valley to yourself, and don't have to worry about getting run over in the traffic. Let me know when you'll be making your trip, maybe I'll just make a third trip to meet up with you folks and say hi. :>)

I have done this ride MANY times,I think what you are looking for is on the Oregon coast..Just get on 101 and head North in oregon and there ar MANY MANY places as you describe.Ride all the way to Portland and you will never forget it. Also,if you are coming from Southern California get on Hwy 1 cross Golden Gate bridge and stay on that highway as much as possible..BREATHTAKING.. I have numerous pictures but they do not tell the real story! Also visit Paul Bunyuns place..I dont know the real name nut you will see Babe the Blue Ox in Northern California. I will be in Colorado on 8/24/08 at the KOA in Ouray,Colorado if you pass thru there that week.. Tom

Thanks for the tips guys. I head out to Phoenix with the Legacy Run in August and then plan a month of camping. I'll head up the CA coast to WA, then across to MT, then WY-SD-NE-KS-OK-TX and a short trip into Mexico.

If you see a Black guy, wearing black, riding a black RSTC and a black leather vest, smiling and singing a song, that's me. If I ain't smiling, please pick me up and put me back on the bike and I'll smile and sing again. :Avatars_Gee_George:

Black on black on black in Pheonix in August... Ouch!! You may want to bring lots of sunscreen.... :) You might think about going up into Canada out of Seattle, east thru Banff and Calgary, and drop down into Montana thru Glacier. I had plans to do that this September but had to put it off until next year. Too many things on my plate... Have a great ride...

Thanks Condor,

In Washington State, I want to do a some of the coast, North Cascades, Mt Ranier and Olympic, but I also want to do a portion of the Lewis Clark Trail in Idaho (Lolo Pass) which is supposed to be a great ride. I planned to head into Glacier National Park before heading for the Blackfeet Reservation in Browning. Since I'm camping in bear country, I'll have bear spray with me and didn't want to cross any borders just to be on the safe side.

I've done most of the area before, just trying to do my 2005-2015 "Lower 48, Canada and Mexico Tours". I have done 23,000 since 2005 and plan to add at least another 12-15,000 from August to October.

I'll be drinking suntan lotion in NM & AZ and I will be wearing long sleeve shirts and a helmet. For the twisties, I add leather jacket and pants.

Hope you can get that plate cleaned off soon. I'll be sure to leave the scenery for you to check out on your ride. Ride safe.

take time and rent a raft if the weather is nice. I visited several times while stationed out there and, and the last time I went a buddy and I rented a raft in the park and took a float trip. On the Merced I believe it is.

It gave a whole different perspective of the park than just driving through and stopping at the overlooks. Don't get me wrong the drives are great, but the raft trip was a really great bonus to an already great trip.

Scooter,

I live in Arlington which is north of Seattle. Lots of great riding around here. I'd head up the Oregon coast (hwy 101), over the Astoria bridge into Washington up through Long Beach. You can then head up the coast and catch one of the ferries or head a bit east and hit I-5 at Olympia. I would recommend the North Cascades over Hwy 20 to head east of the mountains, it's a great ride. The option of heading into Canada then east is also great if you have the extra time. Let me know if you need more specifics. I would be happy to help you plan a route through Washington. You'll want to keep a close eye out for the deer around here, that can really ruin a trip.

It sounds like you are talking about devils elbow. It is north of Florence,Or. Really neat tide pools there. Also close by camping and motels in nearby Yachats. A really neat section of the Oregon coast. Be prepared for cool weather and some headwinds up most of the coast from about Brookings north, normaly the warmer it is inland the cooler, foggier and winder it will be on the coast. Don't let it scare you off tho because it's a beautiful ride! Have fun!!!:smile5:

Lolo Pass is really nice on the Idaho side!! Lots of twisties that you can cruise at 50 and above, but watch the yellow signs for suggested speeds, as some of the corners are not banked to good. Also keep an eye out for deer, elk and bears.

I live next to Glacier Park, just rode over the pass on Saturday. Great ride!

Wish I was going to be home when you come through. I would ride a bit with you. But I will be in NM working..... but I was fortunate to be able to ride the bike there. Lots of great riding around the Farmington area.

I bought one of those face masks to keep my 'eagle beak' from getting to burned. Works well.

Geezrr
