FuzzyRSTD Posted July 12, 2008 #26 Posted July 12, 2008 As it stands now, I'm no where NEAR close to danger zone as far as leaning the bike goes. My VStar's floorboard scrap pegs have been replaced 3 times while the Venture is simply too big a bike for me to lean it over properly. I have a new seat coming in sometime soon and hope that alone will lower me down a tad.. but I'm still finding myself having to man handle the bike around a little too much. Hoping to find a solution that will work and be effective.. Rick Butler did my stock seat and I rode lower and farther than ever on any bike I have ever owned. He has a info section in the classifieds at top of page here. The only regret is that I might have added some gell if it where possible.
Semi-retired Posted July 14, 2008 #27 Posted July 14, 2008 Even though I'm 6 ft tall, I find the low-speed/no-speed handling of the RSV to be a task (I'm coming from a much lighter 1100 Suzi).....so I, too, would like to try lowering the front end. I'm not too concerned about the technical aspects of doing the mod...but wonder, if the previous owner has already done it, will I know by looking at triple clamps? Is there any 'benchmark' or 'starting point' measurement that will tell me/show me if it's already been lowered? (I've only ever ridden one other RSV, and that was some time ago, so I can't really tell by "feel" if mine might have already been modified.) Thanks for any info, Mike. Good instructions here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=939 It's not that difficult to do. Good luck. Joe

If it has already been lowered, the tubes will be sticking up through the triple tree by about an inch or so. If they are nearly flush, then it hasn't been lowered. Joe
Guest cwil2988 Posted July 14, 2008 #29 Posted July 14, 2008 p.s. Had to modify the kick stand so the bike was not too upright when parked. The kickstand is something I have often wondered about. I had a Boulevard before the TD, and compared to the TD, the Suzuki always felt like it was just going on over. also, I have to watch when parking on a hill, if the hill goes down to the right, sometimes I have to find alternate parking, and mine isn't even lowered Yet!!!!
Semi-retired Posted July 14, 2008 #30 Posted July 14, 2008 Good call, Joe. Thanks. I wonder just how critical that side stand mod is? I hate the thought of butchering up my chrome; plus, if I can get away without cutting/welding whatever......this could be a totally homemade project with no shop time......and therefore subject only to MY timing, and not some commercial guy that wants to put me in a queue for a week or two!! If it has already been lowered, the tubes will be sticking up through the triple tree by about an inch or so. If they are nearly flush, then it hasn't been lowered. Joe
az1103 Posted July 14, 2008 #31 Posted July 14, 2008 I have no idea what all this sidestand talk is about.I left mine as it was - never had a problem. Then again, I watch where I park so I suppose if you park with high ground on the left you could be too vertical. But why would you do that??? The ammount of difference just doesn't justify butchering the sidestand.
Seaking Posted July 21, 2008 #32 Posted July 21, 2008 Once you start it will all become fairly obvious and realy simple - just follow the instructions. You shouldn't have any trouble and if you need help, just post! Judging from the cost in the post above, you should get a nice glow just to know that you did it yourself and saved plenty. Yeah I see that price shocker.. I just received my Butt Butler seat from Rick and wow did that ever make a difference in seating and how I handle the bike. Impressive.. comfy.. now my friends are miffed that I can actually ride the whole distance of the tank.. and on this bike, that's going FAR!! hehehe Next month I should hopefully be seeing my new Clearview windshield and while the shroud is apart to install the shield, I'll have a closer look at dropping the forks a tad for more comfort.. As you mentioned: Cheaper, effective and safe.. Thanks again!
Roy Hoffman Posted July 23, 2008 #33 Posted July 23, 2008 I bought my 06 lowered front and rear with a Corbin seat on it. I felt comfortable on it from new, but after putting Venoms on it 3k miles ago what a difference!! Was down to the tail of the dragon in June and really enjoyed it. O yeah I only stand 5'3" with a 26" inseam. Enjoy. ROY:cool10:
