mini-muffin Posted July 8, 2008 #2 Posted July 8, 2008 Wow that's not a good thing. Hope it all works out with the insurance. Gonna try again when the insurance comes through? Margaret

Mikealiasmike Posted July 8, 2008 Author #4 Posted July 8, 2008 Oh yea, I have to, wife says she'll personally build it if I won't (I think she wants her living room started where I've kept the extra stuff/tools etc... for remoldeling our home) already called the insurance company (hell, I called as it was falling down. Pekin insurance co. and they said "when the damage is done and you've accounted for all loses let us know, we'll send out a check" now THAT will be fantastic service if it is all true. We'll wait and see.

Ouch!!! Be glad it was just being built and not full of your stuff already. BTW: You coming up to Pork in the Pines? I need to practice up on my wiring skills again
autopilot Posted July 8, 2008 #6 Posted July 8, 2008 Well, that bites! If it had been finished it would've taken the wind. I hate it for you, but at least no one was physically harmed!
Mikealiasmike Posted July 8, 2008 Author #7 Posted July 8, 2008 Can't make it this year, going to Alaska on a cruise with my mom. Before dad passed away he promised mom he'd take her so us kids decided to pay her way. I'm the only one who can "escape" long enough to go so being the loving son I am... leave it alone... I pulled the short straw. Perhaps next year. I'll save any wiring I have for then Ride safe and God Bless. Mike
Guest tessa c2 Posted July 8, 2008 #8 Posted July 8, 2008 sorry to see that mike, yes whith the ends open they are very vonerable to the winds, what size was it? at least now you have lots of arches for jo dees flower garden, lets see, ho ya they also make good sleds for pulling moose out of the bush during the late moose hunting season, once there is snow on the ground. sorry that we won't catch you this summer, but that will be a nice cruise anyways, suppose to be very scenic. as for Wil practising his wiring, they sould stamp on the packages, if the unit is for the Canadian or US, so that he could get the correct left turn signal wire hooked up:cool10: take care pete

The wife, kids, and I took the cruise in '06. Be prepared to see some awesome scenery.... We went on Celebrity out of Seattle. Kinda a stodgy boat but injoyable. Take lots of pics.....
Black Owl Posted July 8, 2008 #10 Posted July 8, 2008 Man o' man. What a bummer. When you start the replacement, might I sugges hanging a grelim bell. That should keep all the evil forces at bay. http://www.getsmile.com/emoticons/emotions-smileys-free/bell.gif Sorry t o hear you won't be able to join us at the Pork in the Pines this year. You and JoDee were definately a hoot to be with. Any chance you two will be at the Hobo Days in Britt? Enjoy to cruise.
Mikealiasmike Posted July 8, 2008 Author #11 Posted July 8, 2008 Thanks everyone for the concern. This whole thing will pan out fine. Called the insurance company today and their sending out an adjuster tomm. Bad part is we had to take it down the rest of the way because we have another storm possibly rolling in and I dont want the pieces blowing into farmers field and doing damage there. The agent told me if theres a possibility of it happening take it down but get pictures. As you saw it was the first thing I did. Owl, don't know if I'll make it to Britt for hobo days but if theres a chance I'll get in touch with you. Pete, sorry we couldn't get together this year but next year i am going to CO come hell or high water and here in Iowa we know high water. :rotf:take care all and God Bless. Mike
Mikealiasmike Posted July 16, 2008 Author #12 Posted July 16, 2008 He called today and informed me the total insured amount for materials + labor + shipping came in at 8950.00 with my 500.00 deductable. Once again Pekin insurance came through with a fair offer I'm pleased with. No hassle or arguements. They have been good to me. Check will be here tomm or next day and new parts to rebuild will be ordered. Life continues to be good and all is well in my universe. Ride safe and God Bless.
Eck Posted July 16, 2008 #13 Posted July 16, 2008 Dont forget to include the "labor costs" you incurred in the assembly of it when settling with your insurance company....... I mean hell, I know I charged you $75.00 an hour...when I helped you assembly it..
Mikealiasmike Posted July 16, 2008 Author #14 Posted July 16, 2008 75.00 an hour? Since you made me pay you cash under the table, I couldn't file that. Perhaps you'd like to come by and make up for my loss that I paid you and couldn't file????? Another thing I meant to mention.... Did you put that one special bolt in that holds the entire thing up???? Insurance company wanted to know names of workers in case this goes to court.... muahahaha. Mike
Bob Myers Posted July 16, 2008 #15 Posted July 16, 2008 Shame you are so far away. I have an American Steel building, similar to yours except they call it an "A" building, 24 x 25 that I have never erected. Would sell it cheap enough to ship to you in Iowa from Ky and still have some insurance left over for a new bike lift or two.
Mikealiasmike Posted August 25, 2008 Author #16 Posted August 25, 2008 Finally got Quonset rebuilt. Finished cementing it in yesterday (Never expected it to take 106 bags of cement). Got to build doors next but that'll be after Alaska (anybody live in Anchorage with an extra scooter want to go for a ride while I'm waiting for return flight at 23:30 on the 3rd??? lol). Long wait that day. Ship comes in port @ 07:00 and plane won't leave till then. Gremlin bell goes in when I wire in the lights up on the roof... hmmm, actually, isn't the whole building a roof pretty much?? Wifes eyeballing building like when am I gonna fill it with the stuff so we can start on remoldeling new living room... Gonna try to attach picture but not very good at this stuff. Ride safe and keep God as your fulltime passenger.
Mikealiasmike Posted August 25, 2008 Author #17 Posted August 25, 2008 OK, so I took a wise mans advice, why tempt fate. Guardian Bell hung.
mini-muffin Posted August 25, 2008 #18 Posted August 25, 2008 Nice looking all up now. I like the guardian bell. Hope it holds up this time. Margaret
Guest tessa c2 Posted August 26, 2008 #19 Posted August 26, 2008 after the first one, i was picturing one about the size of your liberty bell, but it looks good, are you putting in over head doors into it? Hope you have a great cruise to Alaska. it should be pretty nice there this time of year, i know that if i had some spair hours up there i would pull out the camera and call in some moose, the rut should be on up there by then. have fun, pete
Dano Posted August 26, 2008 #20 Posted August 26, 2008 106 bags, 10 yards? I thunk I'd had called in one of them big ol' rolling barrell trucks and had him pour me out some 'crete!!!! Did 3 driveways last year, still tryin' to heal up my back!!!! Looks good, tho. Now you gotta' fill it with some bikes!! gotta have somethin' to do over the winter!!! Dan
Mikealiasmike Posted August 26, 2008 Author #21 Posted August 26, 2008 I considered the cement truck but it was a matter of time. It took all day to get cement angled properly away from barn so water drained off slab. Then had to do the same thing inside except a bit higher for the water table in case outside rises.... I hope not at least . Pete, feel free to come on up and meet me Anchorage, but bring along another scooter so I can get Alaska on my map for signature when I figure out how to do it . Going to build wooden doors for barn, 2 swinging outward and the top 4' like an airport hanger and swing upward. It'll be conquered when I get back. I'll post more pics then. Ride safe and keep God as your passenger. Mike 106 bags, 10 yards? I thunk I'd had called in one of them big ol' rolling barrell trucks and had him pour me out some 'crete!!!!
