Gee Boomer,

The air must be REALLY THIN way up there in the North Eastern States, because anyone who would think that a Harley "Wanna' Be" with that big chunky "Dunkin' Doughnut" front tire, and those six foot long mufflers that look like they belong on a "leaf blower" could ever outrun one of the finest sport/touring machines ever produced on the planet needs to get his "seeing eye dog" a new pair of glasses! I would be more that happy to put my "Washing Machine" up against your "lugger, bagger" any day my friend! I guarentee that you will feel like my sister's prom sweater when I'm done with you, washed, spin dried, and hung out to dry! I might not be able to out top end an 1800 gold wing (I never found one that had the sack) but I regularly "snack" on the "safty chrome" of almost every late model production bike out there, including YOURS!:moon:

I waited to post this until you slapped us first genner's around more that once, I'm pretty slow to get fired up, but am willing to back up everything I have said here.

My name is Earl Harrell and I proudly own one of those 22 year old "washing machines".

Wanna' Race?

Earl

If you would get rid of that antique washing machine you wouldn't be slow getting fired up.:stirthepot:

Hey Earl.....If you have read much on this Site you should have noticed that there is a lot of joshing between the 1st and 2nd Genners. Nothing said was intended to be taken personal or insulting.

Boomer.....who's not going to argue with anyone who has a washing machine complex..

HAHA - So what is the minimum age for someone to own a wing?

I'm still trying to find out.. I jumped from an 1100 VStar, which I had modified, customized so that the only thing original on it is the frame and mirrors.. no joke.. the bike is lowered so much that when I sit on it after the Venture, I feel like my knees are up into my cheeks..

Riding the Vstar brings the hellion out in me, the kid that never grew up inside..

However, riding the Venture, I feel distinguished and proper until recently when I discovered my rev limiter and that the engine won't blow up at high revs.. now it's a big boy bike, a bigger version of my powerful VStar..

Now.. to go to a Goldwing, I don't think I'm old enough at 46 yrs of age.. though fully retired and able to travel well, I don't think I have reach the required age for a Goldwing..

That age is the magical number of being old enough to 'putter' around the house but yet still vibrant enough to manhandle such a large bike. I've seen several local ex-Goldwingers having to part with their bikes because they were getting too hold to handle.. the biker that is..getting too old..

If I get one TOO soon, then people will think I'm in my 50 or 60's.. If I wait too long then I won't have the longevity of vibrancy to enjoy it for a long period of time.. So it is a gamble.. get one too early and you're perceived as an ol' coot on a Geezer Glide.. get one too late in life and you're too ol' a coot to actualy enjoy it..

Mind you, seeing how 'apparently' my Venture is heavier and more difficult to handle than a GoldWing, perhaps I will be able to stave off the requirement of a rolling sofa..

I think my baby Geezer Glide in Training will suffice for a while.. for quite a few more years.. :)

If you see a 50 yr old riding a crotch rocket and a 19 yr old riding a Goldwing, well you see what I mean.. Mind you.. there is a young instructor in my group who can do tircks with HIS Goldwing that no one can match.. brings tears to your eyes to watch him scrape his bags around corners and do brake stands on it..

I'm happy (very) with my Venture.. When I grow up I might consider a GW =)

Wow, that VStar sounds like quite the sight... especially with someone on it!

This kind of stuff cracks me up. I love my venture, and my wing. I guess some days I'm close to an "ol coot on a geezer glide".

And my mom is [don't tell her I said this] but in her 50's... I'm 24. And every once and a while I get a chance to ride with her. We have gotten some weird looks when we pull up to the pumps and she's on her Suzuki Bandit and I'm on the wing. She is pretty small so the bandit fits her well and she loves the way it drives.

ANYWAYS, I do know what you mean and it just cracked me up so I couldn't let that one go. :thumbsup2:

I had an 83 "Warshin Masheen" and now have an 03 RSV. The only reason the 1st Gen is a bit quicker is because non of them have any plastic left on them, rendering them to being a V-Max!! You have to have stock in Duct Tape to keep them together!! Am I right or not??? I'd never go back to the 1st Gen but the RSV really has good blood lines. BTW!!! Remember 2nd GEAR???

Actually I have been keeping my eyes open for a 1st Gen. If I can find one that I am drawn to I will jump on it.

My main problem is that I don't have a suitable garage in which to work on any bike.

Boomer.....who knows that adaption is the key to overcome any obstacle.

I hear you. I wish I could find a COMPLETE one. I'd probably go for one also, just for kicks!

I love the bike but, is there any way to boost the performance of these bikes even a little? Most of the guys I ride with have the Goldwing 1800's and I fell like my bike is panting all the time to keep up.

That's cause it is. Maybe if you had a Vmax motor and gearing set up you could.

For performance, my top recommendation would be to add the VMAX rear. The second would probably the the Dyna ignition module. I don't think that changing the timing curve helps that much but setting the rev limiter to 7250 - 7500 allows you to really crank these things up, especially after you add the VMAX rear.

It all depends on how you ride it. If you have not hit the rev limiter yet, you are not even close to tapping what is there. Punch it hand hold until you feel it in 2nd and 3rd on an on-ramp somewhere to see what it does (you'll be doing about 96MPH in 3rd by the time you get to 6,500 RPM).

I ride with wings a fair amount and Never have any trouble - sometimes even the Valks have more trouble keeping up with me. Not in a drag race, of course, just normal spirited riding. Yes, an 1800 refrigerator does have more power, but nothing that is significantly usable as far as I am concerned. :080402gudl_prv:

Have to disagree with this my buddies Wing in 5th gear just has to twist the throttle and he walks away. Where I'm having to downshift to try to keep up.

1st and 2nd have that big V-4 heart. Both are Great bikes. I like the looks of the 1st Gen a lot better and the 83's are quickest of the quick or so they are supposed to be. I have not rode a Venture that would Scat like the "Blue Beast" did when she decided to run. And she was a 84?? Bike was tempermental as all get out. I don't know what all had been done to it before I got it but it would move. If there were no 1st gens left I would have a hard choice between a Wing, FJR or 2nd Gen. Everyone talks about the comfront of the 2nd Gen. I have never ridden one but my 1st Gen fits my old busted up body fine. Maybe we got something in common??

:soapbox: I'll shut up now. Need some more pain pills.

I ride a 2004 white venture, my brother rides a 2005 goldwing, I ride right along with him, until he decides to twist the throttle, then he's gone.

We tried it from 60 in high gear, I ended up kicking down to third and he still left me, and he did shift down.

There are not many crotch rockets that will take a 1800 Goldwing.

We all know that Goldwings are faster, but who cares. When it comes to actually looking at the bikes, the 2nd Gen is ALL CLASS, the Wing a gob of plastic, And the 1st Gen...Well enough said......:witch_brew::witch_brew::witch_brew::whistling::whistling::whistling:

The venture is more classic looking, and I love the riding position, but I washed and polished mine yesterday took me over 2 hours.

Serviced, changed engine oil, checked fluid levels, tires, etc. and washed my brothers wing in less time, the tupperware is a lot easier to clean.

I'm new to the bike, but this AM after getting it to run on all 4-I gave it some extra in 3rd gear on a ramp entering the super slab and I was shocked. No it wasn't endless electric like my FZ1 but compared to my 1200 sportster and my previous bikes it was smooth and kept revving until I backed off--really amazing for 1100 lbs (me added).

Very nice:hurts:
