Pilot Posted July 6, 2008 #2 Posted July 6, 2008 Since you didn't say if you had replaced the break pads or not I'll assume they are old. If they are old then check the wear marks and replace the pads if they are worn. If they are worn then check the rear pads also and replace them if they are worn. Usually the rear pads will wear down before the front. A bit more info from you will help us with advise.
M61A1MECH Posted July 6, 2008 #3 Posted July 6, 2008 Squealing and grinding front brakes are pretty common on these bike. I have heard some say all you need to do is a couple of hard stops using the front brakes to break the glaze and set them. I must not have done it right because that did not work for me. I did take the calipers off and pull the pads, applied some anti-squeal product that I picked up at the local autoparts store. Worked very well, now I only get the squeal once in while normally if I been in traffic and they heated up. Good Luck
1BigDog Posted July 6, 2008 #4 Posted July 6, 2008 The factory pads leave alot to be desired. Mine always squealed like a pig. Had a metal to metal sound. I replaced them at 26k with an aftermarket pad and the squeal went away. However the second set of pads didnt last as long as the originals so I changed them last summer with EBC HH+ pads and I love them. No squeal either.

When removed, it appears there is tons of material left on both pads; probably 3/16 or possibly even a 1/4 inch (if that's possible)......so it appears I don't have a metal on metal problem. Don't know exactly how the stock ones are identified, and can't remember if the original owner said he replaced them or not, but these ones are marked along the top edge with the code: TOYOS20GG.......then a number 28 on one side, and a 14 on the other. The faces themselves look somewhat copperish and shiny, so perhaps the previous guy put in high metal content pads in order to reduce wear. Thoughts?
kilowatt55 Posted October 8, 2008 #6 Posted October 8, 2008 I have an 06 TDX and it squells like crazy and I checked the pads and with nothing wrong decided that when mine wore out tha I was going to EBC when these wore out.

Squidley Posted October 8, 2008 #8 Posted October 8, 2008 Mike, Did we replace the fronts or just the rear pads when you were here? I would suggest that you get a set of the EBC HH pads, that is what I use. My '08 is quealing right now and there is only 6500 miles on them. The only other option is take them off and chamfer the edges of the pads, this sometimes will help with the squealing.
Owen Posted October 9, 2008 #9 Posted October 9, 2008 My front brake would squeal like a '62 buick. I mentioned it to the service guys when they did the 8k service and replaced the tires. He looked at them and said they were fine. He suggested running about a quarter mile at 40 or so with the front brake applied moderately to 'de-glaze' them. It worked perfectly. I have to do it every couple weeks. The 40 mile commute in Houston traffic is pretty hard on brakes in these stop and go rush hours. I suspect a better pad would help. Just my two cents...
