sleepy2 Posted July 3, 2008 #1 Posted July 3, 2008 My insurance contacted me and said WRITE OFF.Bike value $3795can. My amount with deductible taken off (my pocket take home ) $3800 They get bike. If I keep bike $2700. They don't care about other things I put on(doesn't add to value)New tire $275/light bar $100/ Rotor covers$150/oil filter adapter $80. Will replace helmet even tho I don't have receipt if I cut off straps. Not sure if they will replace rain suit/gloves and boots if I don't have receipts. Wife wants me to leave bike and get the $3800 and get another. I think I should keep and get another close so I have spares and new parts. Seen 2-85s and 86 for under $3000can.One has under 36000klms. so keeping my bike could help out in future. Have only till tomorrow morning as insurance won't pay for storage any longer and I have to pickup(no problem as I have trailer that I can use) Any help----advice???????
Freebird Posted July 3, 2008 #2 Posted July 3, 2008 Sounds to me that if some or most of those new parts that you put on it were not damaged in the wreck, you would probably come out ahead to take the $2700 and keep the bike. It really depends upon how bad it is damaged and how many of the parts are usable. Did any of the plastic survive?
dr.nemo Posted July 3, 2008 #3 Posted July 3, 2008 I would agree with Freebird....so long as you are looking at keeping the parts bike and your new first gen long term..., that way you would definitely come out ahead using the parts bike, as well as all the nice custom stuff from her...Although I know from experience that wives,,,, for some reason don't like "parts" bikes, cars, trucks etc...... They tend to look junky behind the garage under a tarp....
sleepy2 Posted July 3, 2008 Author #4 Posted July 3, 2008 I would keep the next as long as I can so spare parts-motor etc. would be great. Left side gone on front(fairing/headlight/lower fairing/rad/left crash-bar/driving-light/horn/and not too sure what else. Bike shop is checking to see if forks are bent or not. Then I will go from there. I figure it is worth keeping it for the $569 and find another.
utadventure Posted July 3, 2008 #5 Posted July 3, 2008 If the add on items don't increase the insurance payout then they shouldn't care if they are included on the bike. Maybe you can salvage the add ons and take the $3800can, buy a replacement bike and put it back on. That way you can keep some peace at home by not having the "parts bike" behind the garage.
Gary N. Posted July 3, 2008 #6 Posted July 3, 2008 I took all the accessories off of mine, that were any good, before I let the insurance pick it up. They really didn't care what I took off of it. And the way they loaded it made me sick. Just pushed it over on it's side and drug it up on the wrecker. I may as well of taken the saddle bags too because the left one sure wasn't any good when they got done with it. Seems like they want a lot of money for you to buy it back. I could have bought my '03 back for $1300.00.
Wizard765 Posted July 3, 2008 #7 Posted July 3, 2008 It appears that you have a time limit and may not get the time to remove the extras. In my opinion if you have a place to keep the "parts" bike I'd for sure keep her. If there are enough good parts you will have those available for the new scoot or even sell parts on eBay. Either way I'd say you are farther ahead to keep the bike. Wayne
Guest tessa c2 Posted July 4, 2008 #8 Posted July 4, 2008 yes your buy back is 600 bucks take it and park the bike, you will get more than that off of ebay if you decide to strip it down, and who know you just might come across some good deals if you want to fix it mine i had bought back and it had cost me about 3 thousand to fix it, but i knew my frame was good under it, just my 2 cents worth
a1bummer Posted July 4, 2008 #9 Posted July 4, 2008 No matter what happens... I can't help but believe that insurance companies are all crooks. Think of how different things would be if they didn't have the power over us that they do.
PBJ Posted July 4, 2008 #10 Posted July 4, 2008 Believe me the bike is worth more to you to keep it . Throw a tarp over it if you have to sell what you want and keep the rest. those parts will come in handy and if not they'll help some other member either here or on E bay.
bongobobny Posted July 4, 2008 #11 Posted July 4, 2008 ^^^ I agree!! Also, if you decide to fix, I do have some parts...
Freebird Posted July 4, 2008 #12 Posted July 4, 2008 SOME parts...remember...I've seen your stash. You could build a couple of first gens from your "some parts".
