We use them all the time fishing for striped bass here in Va. we use mostly live bait but you can use plastic swim baits also. What you do is put your bait on and then find out how deep you want to run your bait for example if you want to run it 20 feet reel off 20 ft. of line and clip your line (the reel side) to the red release and the bait side of the line thru the snap swivel on the back of the board and then just let the line out the length you want the board will act like a ski and will move to the outside of the boat we usally troll them about 1/2 mph with electric trolling motor and we run 3 on each side of the boat. Hope this helps

Anybody here know how a fishing planer board works? Or at least know where I can find directions on how to use them? I bought a couple at a yard sale a couple years ago and never got around to figuring out how to set them up. I have one for both the port side and the starboard side.

Here's a link to the ones that I have.

You actually answered yourself very well by finding the instructions. The key to running boards is simply time on the water. The thing that you will find that you will be changing and adjusting is the tension on the clip. It is trial and error. Too little preasure and it will trip too easily and too much preasure and it won't trip. One other thing that you will want to experiment with is the lead length from the board to the bait. Try 10', try 20' try 50'--again, experiment. Depending on what you might be fishing for, you might just want to add a little lead between the board and the lure.

Use them and have fun,

Steve

Around here we have one called the 'Pink Lady'. It's been around forever. Basically operates with the same plainer board principal as the ones you have but from the looks of it but since it's plastic, much lighter. If a garage sale has a tackle box for sale 9 times out of 10 there's a Pink Lady in it.

I have planer's and I have down-rigger's . I like using the planers closer to shore . Down-rigger's when we are 20 or more miles offshore . Depending on what we are fishing for , being Blues , Spanish , or Kings will determine the size of planer , speed , use of Bally-hoo or spoons .

I just miss my Dupont lures ! :rotf::rotf:
