Reshired Posted June 30, 2008 #1 Posted June 30, 2008 I have noticed the Saddle bags get really hot due to being close to the pipes. If I were to go to the grocery and get anything cold or produce, it would heat it up if I left it there very long. Has any one installed heat shields under their bags or any mods to fix this? I was even thinking of venting the bags along with a heat shield of somekind.

PBJ Posted June 30, 2008 #3 Posted June 30, 2008 The Honda shadow tours have heat shields under their bags obviously they saw it as a problem. Maybe soom of they might help you with some kind of adaptation.

It helps if you have something cold to put something in between like a shirt or box of whatever you have that it will not matter.

yamahamer Posted June 30, 2008 #6 Posted June 30, 2008 Doesn't make sense! 424 are a smaller pipe and futher away from the bags than any other pipe. I know someone who has them and they run very cool you can even touch them after a short ride. Do tou still have baffles in?

On my HD Ultra, the right side bag gets hot too...so I put a layer of Reflectix in the bottom. It does help keep things less warm. I havent had any problem with the Venture's bags getting more than just mildly warm, even on a hot day. You can buy rolls of Reflectix, but I dont know if you can find just a small piece of it.

V7Goose Posted July 3, 2008 #9 Posted July 3, 2008 Strange how our perceptions can be so different. I use my RSV every day for everything, including grocery shopping. In 50,000 miles I have never noticed even a bit of extra warmth in the bags. Even when touring and riding all day with the bags packed tight, nothing has felt warm when unpacking immediately after stopping. My bikes have never had any other pipes than stock. Wish I could help, but I don't seem to have the problem! Goose
