rude115 Posted June 30, 2008 #1 Posted June 30, 2008 The horn on the right side of my 2000 RSV is not working. I checked the voltage and it shows to be around 9.6 volts, when the horn button is pressed and 0 when not. Should it be 12 or greater? Is there a relay that could be going bad?
Freebird Posted June 30, 2008 #2 Posted June 30, 2008 Did you check the voltage with the bike off or running? Horns do draw quite a lot of current and I can see the voltage dropping pretty good if the bike was not running. I don't think it would drop quite so much if you had it running though. On the back side of the horn I think is a little screw that you can turn to adjust the horn. I've seen several where that screw was tightened down too tight and would not allow the horn to work. You might try backing it out and then adjusting it while trying the horn. The bottom line though is that the stock horns leave a lot to be desired. Many of us have replaced them with either air horns or a high quality electric.
BOO Posted July 1, 2008 #3 Posted July 1, 2008 Also I pretty sure you are switching the ground on and off when you push the button so check and make sure the ground is good. Jerry
SaltyDawg Posted July 1, 2008 #4 Posted July 1, 2008 Disconnect the connector from the horn then check your voltage. If the engine isn't running it will be in the 11vdc range since the headlight is on and drawing current. I agree with Freebird check that little screw.
