Ok,I finally bit the bullet and being that I like to try new things I bought a New (Blem) windshield directly from Clearview. I ordered the XX Tall,Tinted with the Vent.It is wider from bottom to the top and as the pics I think show it is designed to throw the wind farther over the top of your head and more to the sides also,IT DOES THAT. I did not think the vent would really get air to me but IT DOES DO THAT...ALOT more.I was unsure about ordering with the tint,I am glad I did that also. I know I read posts on here that some do not like it but If you are unsure about it and live around here or traveling thru, call I will let you ride mine,They are BETTER than I thought it would be. Now if you order one they will tell you it will be 4-6 weeks BEFORE they start production on it so be prepared for that. You have to ASK if they have a Blem,it took 2 days for them to get back but I realize I am not the only customer they have,it was worth the wait!( 2 very very small scratches) Here are the pics from all angles . Bottom Line is I Recommend it if you want air off of your passenger and want more air directed to you thru a vent on those hot days. Tom

I just ordered an XXL tinted with vent. Looked at the blem list but without seeing the damage, I couldn't take the plunge. Now I have to wait 4 to 6 weeks to get mine.

Looking good Tom. :happy34:

I have the same one - I love it! The vent is fantastic on those hot rides. The tinted version is great for those sunny days! This is the 3rd shield I have put on my bike, my first clearview shield - the best one so far!

So far everyone says there great, but HOW are they great?

Is the passenger happy with it? If it is just because of the vent, a vent can be put into the Yamaha shield.

So just more specifics would be nice.

Well Debby has had numerous surgeries on her neck and spine so it was critical I get the buffeting off of her..none until the Clearview did this. I get better views from the shield, the stock has a curve in it to the sides and to ME it distorts my vision when getting in a long drawn out curve, the Clearview seems to give a more real view of the road..Does that make sense? The shield SEEMS to not buffet the wind as bad,may just be me. The vent REALLY gets air to you,it can be directed from my face to neck to shoulders to full body(Stomach area). The tint GREATLY reduces the Glare and at night isnt a factor. You can use RAIN X on it..I will try this soon. When you come to Texas whether I am working or not call and come by and Debby will hand the keys to you and try it..besides you and Bobbie are welcome here ANYTIME! Tom

Thanks this is the info I needed.

When you ride solo, do you notice a reduction in being buffeted by wind?:)

I put the same windshield on two years ago. My wife has neck injuries also and the buffeting she was getting with the stock windshield made the ride painful for her. With the new Clearview the buffeting is gone and so she enjoys the ride much more.

The vent just rocks on hot days! And when it's cold I close it and it's like there never was a vent. These are good windshields. yesterday I was riding through intermittent rain and the rain kept washing off the shield so I could see.

Remember, use Plexus. Don't be a fool and use a normal gas station squeegee (like I did) and scratch it up. Plexus will cover up the scratches, but you don't want the in the first place.

I put the xxl clear w/vent on before we left for Skid In, my wife was much happier, alot less wind, buffeting and noise, the vent worked very well for me, it was cool in the mornings, kept it shut, it got pretty warm in the afternoon, flipped it open and a nice breeze!! I rode in the rain looking thru it, worked out fine, and it didnt fog up on the inside due to the vent system that blows air up the inside of shield, I like it, but it is a little pricey, and the 4-6wk wait?? Beautiful bike. I am gonna get one for my Tour Deluxe as soon as I can afford it. Do they charge your credit card at the time of the order or 4 weeks later when it ships? That could make a difference for when I make the order.

Thanks...

I'm highly interested in one of these as the previous owner of my 06 Midnight Venture had cut the original shield down to a height where the top of the shield is right where I see.. I have to duck down to see through the plexi or sit up more to see over, especially at night when it rains.. ouch.

On my previous bike, an 05 VStar, I use to look over the windshield and yet not feel any buffeting on the head..

However on the Venture, my helmet catches the wind more often than not and it's not comfortable.. Couldn't tell you much of what the passenger feels as I ride solo.

If ordering one of these windshields, I'm not sure if I want to see 'through' it or 'over' it..

I like the vent idea to get ride of the behind the screen burble.. I bought this bike for the joyful ride in comfort compared to the hair on fire ride on my current VStar ; )

I'm new to the Venture, can someone help me decide which height would be best for me?

Cheers

I thought I would like a shorter windshield when riding by myself but I bought a New one that is wider at the bottom from Yamaha and I didnt like it..Especially if wife jumped on she hated it.(Thats why I have the shorter listed now in classifieds). I am 5 10,33 inseam and I ordered the XXtall and VERY glad I did,it leans back towards the rider a little more and seems like to me it is a shade over what the stock was..I am glad I didnt get what they at Clearview call the stock size. The Vent really does work,I could not believe how much air comes thru when you open it all the way.The stock windshield was terrible when it rained,I could not see anything. At least on this one you can put Rain X on it..DONT do that on the stock..I did and It was a nightmare. Have the exact same one and love it. Less buffering, better wind protection, better water shed even before rain X. Can't recommend enough.

Nice shield Tom...looks like my tall wide Yamaha (which goes out as wide as that) but it's not tinted nor does it have the vent. I had a clearview on my RSTD titnted and I loved it, they are real quality. Enjoy!!!

I have been considering one of these since I first saw them on E-Bay last week. thanks for the input...I think I will now order one. What I would like to know is : how hard are they to install ? I have limited knowledge of my fairing. Any advice would help.

Thanks,

Steve

I ordered my clearview xxl (light grey tint and vent)for my 85 1st gen about a month ago and havnt heard about shipping yet....:( , but on the upside, It hasnt appeared on my credit card yet either. I cant wait to get it installed as they previous owner cheaped out and put a small slipstream windshield on it and my whole head and neck is over the top of the windshield and with my open face helmet I get buffered constantly

I know not to put RainX on a stock windshield as it will haze it out but on these new Clearviews you can? I saw this on their site also but also question if it's that safe or not.. IS the material they use that much different that it's safe to use?

Thanks for the response..

I have not used the rainx yet but I stressed to them that if I use it and it ruins my windshield will they replace..YES,but nothing will happen to hurt the shield. I do not know what it is made of as far as actual material,Acrylic Plastic????

When you order these windshields from them, are you getting a spanking clean new one or are they rejects being reworked? I'm a little confused by the 'blemish' section and people purchasing 'blems' (blemish?)

You can buy a brand new windshield or what Clearview calls a "blemished" windshield. The blemished windshields are cheaper but aren’t always available in the configuration you want.

We bought their largest windshield with a vent. They didn’t have any blemished windshields in stock to match our needs so we bought a new windshield. Delivery took about 4 weeks. Installation is very easy; all you need is an allen wrench.

We bought the largest windshield in an effort to reduce the wind buffeting my wife experienced in the passenger seat. A secondary consideration was to increase the water shedding in the rain for increased vision.

The Clearview windshield accomplished both goals, and very well too! My wife experiences much less wind and is very satisfied with the additional protection provided by the new windshield. The windshield sheds water very well, especially when coated with rain-x or wax. This increased water shedding offers significantly better vision during rain.

Tom,

Did you have a clutch basket chirp before you got this windshield?

Reason I ask is because I have one and, I don't know if it's just me but, I think my "chirp" got better. Not necessarily the volume of the chirp was reduced, although I think that may be the case slightly, but, to me, there was a really high pitched component about the chirp which, I believe decreased dramatically. So now, the chirp doesn't quite hit me like an ice pick into the ear like it used to.

Just wanted to know if you or anyone else can confirm that I'm not crazy... Okay, Okay, I AM crazy but just that I'm not crazy about hearing a difference in the sound.

Many thanks for the clarification, much appreciated.. I guess I'll be ordering the XXL tinted - vented..

Nice!
