Crashed my 87' Royale this afternoon!

I had posted yesterday that I was in need of a luggage rack....now I need most of the left side for a 87' Royale.

Yep, a young lady knocked me off my 87' Royale while coming home from work this afternoon and took the bike with her, since my highway peg was stuck in the passenger side of her front bumper. The bike was shoved across two lanes and left to die up on the sidewalk. She and her husband ride a bike, so she is very upset for not looking before pulling out of a conveniance store.

 

Now, how will the insurance adjuster treat me? She had Allstate insurance.

 

The officer who responded gave her 3 points and a ticket!

 

But on a good note...I am fine with a small brush burn on the sleeve of my rain gear...

 

Oh Shoot, I quess this means I won't make it to the Skid In...or Thunder in the Valley..or Gettysburg..or....

Glad you're OK Dave!!

 

It's getting harder and harder to find good plastic for 1st Gen's. Ebay is your best bet but it's gonna take time to accumulate everything you need.

 

Guess you won't be coming up to visit anytime soon...

Glad you are OK. I know all about missing out on things. 2 yrs now and I just can't seem to get it togather. I'm getting tired of making excuses and showing up in a Saab. Good luck on getting it back togather. Be carefull with that Insurance Company!!

Thanks all! Not sure how to handle Allstate insurance even though the fault was on the other driver. The bike is 21 years old and I am sure the games will begin soon.

 

Any one here had a such dealings with insurance when their bike was hit. I need all the help I can get on this one.

I saw a 84 venture, last week in Davie floirda, I'll go stop by and see if its still there.

Am so glad youre ok, too bad about your ride. When you have time to make an inventory of what you need for parts let us know, I am sure all us 1st gen riders seem to have parts kicking around and will be able to help you out for some of them.

I wish you good luck with the insurance companies..........i hope you dont need it.

I am trying to reach Skydoc_17 as he is not far from me...between the two of us we can inventory the damage. I will post more info when I know more

Glad you're ok, posts like this scare me, but when I read your story it assures me that not all accidents, contrary to the believe of many, end up a total loss.

I was going to let you know that I have a luggage rack (for under the tour pack, correct). If you still need it, let me know.

Glad to hear you are up and about though. Machines can be fixed with spare parts and such, people are not as fortunate.

I'm glad you weren't more personally and physically involved in this accident. I am parting out an '88 VR in gold. I have the saddlebags and left side crash guards, and will contribute them to the cause if you can tell me just what parts you need.

Just don't be too quick in telling them that you weren't injured. That's what they fear the most! Just tell them you are not sure yet, that you're going for a check-up and just watch how quick they offer to settle. On the other hand the estimators they send out to write up the damage are pretty good at what they do.

When some idiot cliped me in the parking lot I figured 150 or so, it took him 2 seconds to tell me it would be over 500 and when I told him that my wife's leg had made physical contact with the fender although there wasn't even a bruise, another check for 200 materialized for what they called "pain and stress" Go figure.....

Glad that you are ok. Sorry about the bike.

 

Since I've taken up riding, I am more aware of bikes all the time while driving my cage. I even go so far as to say out loud before pulling out....no bikes? If alone I will ask myself this and really look again for the one I may have missed with the first glance. I imagine they feel bad.

Dave, glad to hear you're OK. These bikes are tough underneath, and want to keep coming back for more. Check and print out the stuff you need from ebay, these will have pretty good pricing that you will need for the insurance. To really scare them, go online to a Yammi dealer, look up the parts and print them out with dealer prices!!!!!! Most of the skin pieces are still available, if you want to fork out the dough. I have no doubt that she will regain her former beauty.

Make sure to check the frame when you get to pull parts off, no telling if the drag or the curb did any damage in there.

Just so happens that I'm picking up an 84 parts bike in Williamsport,PA on Monday I was planning to part out on Ebay. It has all the unbroken plastic intack. The saddlebags and trunk probably won't do you much good but all the front fairing will fit the 87. I don't have to be back in Ga until Friday. If your interested and we can hook up in PA early in the week Your welcome to first shot at whatever parts you can use or want and I'll be glad to help you with your bike for as long as I can stay available. I'm at the Skid-in in WV through Sunday then PA on monday. My cell phone number is on my profile if you want to get in touch.

Insurance companies have totaled and paid me off on my 87 four times. Wrote me a full value check and let me keep the bike. I just keep fixing the plastic, repainting it and keep riding it.

Really hate to hear about all these accidents lately. Glad you are OK and I'm sure that with all the great members we have here, the bike will rise again. I parted out a gold '84 last year but unfortunately, it is all gone now.

Dave, sorry to hear of your accident, but glad you came out alive and well. I can't help you with parts, but from reading some of the responses you will be taken care of. I've been on this site for almost three years and the members just continue to blow me away with their help and concern.

I just checked my e-mails and was shocked to hear that you went down yesterday! I didn't make it to the skid-in this weekend, I have the brakes off of my 87' and the fuse box out. I will take a vacation day on Monday and come over and we can take a look and make a list. I was so glad you weren't injured very badly. Don't worry my friend, we'll get the old 87' up and running again. I hope you were wearing your helmet!? You are usually so good about that! With all that silly plastic fairing and side covers we should be able to get to that exhaust collector pretty easy now! I'll send you a PM to work out the details for Monday.
