Suggestions for improvement of our site are not only welcome but encouraged. This is not MY site, this is OUR site. We look forward to your input.

Which is it Don?

ITS the MEMBERS.

The moderators don't always agree on what should be done. And we have overridden Don a few times. Don has picked the mods from the general population of the group and gets a variety of answers from us. I can tell you I had a few posts deleted over the course of my membership here. So Who's is it ? THE MEMBERS !

Posted
As one of the moderators, and probably the most liberal one at that, one of the primary issues I watch for in any thread are postings that start to get personal or insulting. It is sometimes amazing how a very innocuous subject can head south.

I personally have absolutely no problems with a bit of heated discussion as long as it stays on subject. If someone has an opposing view or opinion on a subject, I believe that any member here should be free to express their position. However, for some, any opposition to their opinion or position is taken as a personal attack against which they must immediately defend. At that point the thread starts to deteriorate and it will be put to the other moderators for an opinion on whether it should be allowed to continue.

I don't believe that any of the moderators are trying to push a personal agenda as to what we can or can not say here. With the exception of a thread which is deliberately sexually explicit or racial in nature, the decision to delete or close a thread is not one taken capriciously. On many occasions, a thread may be pushing the bounds and a decision will be made by the moderators to allow it to continue.

I believe that each and every member here is mature enough to realize when a posting they make will become a hot button issue. While most will step back and reconsider the subject matter or the theme of their posting, there are a few that feel that it is their absolute right to say anything they want to. It is those postings that will force the moderators to exercise censorship.

I think some off the members have answered this already and I thank them for the support. They are correct, it was discussed and put to a vote long ago. I also said in that post "I thank you for the 28 years that you dedicated to ensuring all our freedoms, including my right to try and run a private organization in the way that (with our members help and input) I see fit."

Nothing in the statement that you quoted has changed.

OMG...it warms the cockles of my heart to read these words. I do declare we might have a bleedin-heart-liberal-democrat leading this club after all.....ooops, was that a personal insult??

:rotf:

I'm lovin every minute of it...but in 2 minutes I'm outta this jail house for a couple months and I gotta get out on the bike to plan some more fantastic rides in anticipation of hosting a gaggle of bleedin heart, gun toting Yamaha riders at the

This site works for the reasons listed above. If I want political debate other than some good natured ribbing there are plenty of political sites to vent at. We dont bicker about religion but we do offer our prayers to anyone here who needs it. I like the way it is just fine. :cool10:

All I can say is THANK YOU Don and Mods..I have met many on here in person with differing opinions than I have and ALL have a heart of Gold..As one said earlier,on a forum people are faceless, with that being said insults and or attitudes destroy a good thing. Its good we can all be more like Family. Don has it right in the Tag at the top of the home page..I received an email from a member here day before Yesterday asking some info on my bike so he could install pegs like mine..i sent back an email,(hope I helped,) and he got them put on and Thanked me for answering a "Stranger"..well it was simple to me,I wrote back and said "You are no Stranger,You are a Venture Rider"! Thats what this site is about in my Opinion whether Liberal,Conservative,Athiest,WHATEVER. Thanks all of You,Tom

I understand your argument but it is not the first time I have heard it. I created this site to provide a harmonious place for all of us who enjoy riding and discussing our bikes to hang out and enjoy one another's company. As the owner and creator of this club, I made it very clear when I embarked on this adventure 4 years ago that it was going to be free of pornography, political debate, religious debate. I sincerely admire and honor you for your 28 years of service. It is people like you that enable us to live in a free society. You may not realize though that part of that includes my right to start and run a private club and implement the rules that I feel will best work for the organization. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing and is absolutely necessary in a free society but some folks don't realize that it is not an absolute right. You have no right to walk into a bank and scream "THIS IS HOLD UP...EVERYBODY ON THE FLOOR"...you have no right to walk up to the airport screening area and screem "I HAVE A BOMB"....you don't even have a right to go to church and stand there screaming obscenities during the service or at a town hall meeting and stand there screaming and disrupting the entire meeting. There have to be limits along with our freedoms. I thank you for the 28 years that you dedicated to ensuring all our freedoms, including my right to try and run a private organization in the way that (with our members help and input) I see fit.

VentureRider.org is a private club. Free to join but privately owned and operated. I have visited many sites that do allow total freedom of speech, posting of nudity, etc. For me they have not been pleasant sites and very often full of fighting, bickering, etc. I did not build this site to let it turn into that. There are literally hundreds of sites where you can go to debate politics, religion, look at pornography, etc. I have no interest in hosting such a place.

I hate censorship but the few rules of this site are written up in a "STICKY" at the top of the "Watering Hole". Any member who hasn't read that, should do so. If you see anything there that you simply can't live with, then you would probably be happier at some other site. I don't want to see a single member here leave but I don't want anybody here who is just miserable because they can't bash one of our politicians, president, soldiers, whatever.

And that sir is what makes this the BEST and Friendly site on the web!! Your leadership and insight are spot on.

Want a political, religiouis, racial, govemental debate, there are 10's of thousands of web sites just waiting for ya. Wanta talk bikes and meet some the most friendly wonderful people, then this is the place.

Keep it up Don and all the excellent moderators your doing fine:thumbsup2:

While I am a FIRM believer of freedom of speech, I'm in support of Don & mods on this one. There's a time and a place. Plenty of other places to undertake this type of discussion / argument. This isn't the place as far as I and many others (not all) are concerned. I've seen politics and religion attack great institutions of country, family, friends etc. relentlessly. I'd personally prefer to keep this place focused a bit more closely on it's mission with occasional mild diversions.

I suspect Don & mods would allow and support an occasional FYI link to another forum that exists as a discussion source and to promote awareness of such topics if they're really important to members. Perhaps that's a way to allow all sides on these issues to coexist peacefully and respectfully while supporting their right to express opinions? :confused24:
