earlier, i read a post about the 5-4 supreme court ruling on the second amendment.

now , after an hour of reading 200+ years of "pro and con" high court rulings and interpretations, i can't find the post, so i can't reply.

it must have gone SOUTH, really fast!

at any rate, it is sad indeed, that we have FOUR supreme court justices, who cannot read "plain English"!!!!

I read that post and the responses earlier myself. It looked to me like the thread was headed for the crapper pretty fast.

For the sake of keeping the peace here I can only assume that one of the Mods pulled the "Flush" handle......and that's a good thing IMO.:thumbsup2:

Personally I would have liked to be able to view the postings. I don't need anyone to censor what I can and cannot see...there are tools on this site that allow you to block those postings (or posters) that you do not want to see.

I would kind of like to know where others are coming from...who knows, they may make a point that might influence my thinking.

I have enjoyed this site, and I understand that with over 5000 members, we are not all going to agree. We all are adults, though, and if we cannot agree to disagree...well, perhaps that explains a lot about where we are and why conditions in the world are as they are.

I spent 28 years of my life protecting the right of Americans to express their opinion...while I did not always agree with what was being said, I did recognize the right to express the opinion. After all, we do have the right to be as stupid as we want.

Again, I realize this site is controlled by those appointed to do so...but as I said, we have the tools as individuals to read or not read various postings. To me, this is much like the government telling us that they know what is best for us...so, check your brains at the door.

I understand your feelings and I both agree and disagree. Wow, see you are right we can do that

I think the main issue is that we have always tried keep away from the hot topics like Politics, religion, etc... That being said I was guilty of going "Political" on the threads in question here :whistling:, as I'm sure others were too. Sometimes hard not too, when it pushes a hot button as this one happens to for me. I'm glad we have the policies in place to keep this a Motorcycle forum, it keeps me out of trouble :confused24: and their are a world of other places we can vent. Funny thing is I never voice my "true" feelings about many things in a face to face setting, but with the relative anonominity of posting, I get a little carried away. Thanks moderators! I commend you and keep up the good work.

I understand your argument but it is not the first time I have heard it. I created this site to provide a harmonious place for all of us who enjoy riding and discussing our bikes to hang out and enjoy one another's company. As the owner and creator of this club, I made it very clear when I embarked on this adventure 4 years ago that it was going to be free of pornography, political debate, religious debate. I sincerely admire and honor you for your 28 years of service. It is people like you that enable us to live in a free society. You may not realize though that part of that includes my right to start and run a private club and implement the rules that I feel will best work for the organization. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing and is absolutely necessary in a free society but some folks don't realize that it is not an absolute right. You have no right to walk into a bank and scream "THIS IS HOLD UP...EVERYBODY ON THE FLOOR"...you have no right to walk up to the airport screening area and screem "I HAVE A BOMB"....you don't even have a right to go to church and stand there screaming obscenities during the service or at a town hall meeting and stand there screaming and disrupting the entire meeting. There have to be limits along with our freedoms. I thank you for the 28 years that you dedicated to ensuring all our freedoms, including my right to try and run a private organization in the way that (with our members help and input) I see fit.

VentureRider.org is a private club. Free to join but privately owned and operated. I have visited many sites that do allow total freedom of speech, posting of nudity, etc. For me they have not been pleasant sites and very often full of fighting, bickering, etc. I did not build this site to let it turn into that. There are literally hundreds of sites where you can go to debate politics, religion, look at pornography, etc. I have no interest in hosting such a place.

I hate censorship but the few rules of this site are written up in a "STICKY" at the top of the "Watering Hole". Any member who hasn't read that, should do so. If you see anything there that you simply can't live with, then you would probably be happier at some other site. I don't want to see a single member here leave but I don't want anybody here who is just miserable because they can't bash one of our politicians, president, soldiers, whatever.

It was a shame, but It seemed a neccesity. I sided with the decenting Judges and got a bit beat up on because people get so emotional over the 2nd amendment issue. It was starting to get a little nasty and As Radkill said the faceless nature of the internet has a way of letting people lose control of their emotions. On top of that this IS a motorcycle site and I, being new, would hate to see outside subjects divide members and friends.:Avatars_Gee_George:

yeah, I posted on that thread, made a joking comment (and actually SAID it was a joke so everyone would be clear about it) and then I segwayed it into an invitation for all to ride north to the 2008 International Venturerider's meet in Ontario just to keep a potentially hot political thread on track AND motorcyle related. But at that time I didn't read anything in the thread that seemed controversial...to me. I write with a general understanding about the hope that our hard working moderators have to keep it ALL motorcycle related (justifiably so, I suppose). And since I didn't receive any PM about being the one who led the thread to the crapper (if it was deleted for that reason) I trust it wasn't me, (but I generally have a guilty conscience about these things.):whistling: Soooo, I'd like to say that if threads get deleted because of something posted which is outside the boundaries of the site's goals, I sure hope the instigator gets notified so that he can mend his ways!...no matter how many attempts it takes to get him to mend his ways!

Don, thanks for keeping this site clean. I've had the same encounters as you with other forums that don't pull posts fast enough. Things get out of hand quick. Many leave the site for good. I don't think we want that!

There are plenty of forums for political, etc. debates. Iprefer to keep this one centered on motorcycling. After all Life Is a Venture!

hey jay the way i look at it is a little venting and arguing won't hurt a thing. i've been known to openly disagree with other members in heated discussions. no matter how heated i get i still think the world of them. they have a right to there opinion as i do. using fowl language, and name calling should be reprimended. but a little heated discussion is healthy. if it offends someone they should move on to another thread. i'm totally against deleting threads cuz they get heated. i say let them have at it as long as it stays clean. as far as religion or race goes that is a topic that should never be allowed to get started. politics, my favorite topic. someone degrading my country fighting words. snarley bill

I agree on Swifty's Comment was very polite and nice, at least i didn't read any nasty Subtone in it .... :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:

We all should know about the Controversies on some Issues, some Times i'm getting into them, sometimes i'm only a innocent Bystander. I don't know why, but i did knew the Thread would last for long.

I will tell everyone that we don't just go around deleting threads. You have to remember that Don and the Mods are here most of the time and try to read everyrhing. But were not just reading the content. Were reading the tone. When we have to delete a thread its because its turned into personal attacks on each other. If the people were standing there talking to each other in that tone and saying those things it would get nasty real quick. Kinda of like having to call the cops because of a fight.

So don't take it personal if a thread you started or posted into gets deleted. It may not have been anything you said but something that was said 2 hours later by few people who got into a heated discussion and the mods were just trying to keep it from boiling over.

As one of the moderators, and probably the most liberal one at that, one of the primary issues I watch for in any thread are postings that start to get personal or insulting. It is sometimes amazing how a very innocuous subject can head south.

I personally have absolutely no problems with a bit of heated discussion as long as it stays on subject. If someone has an opposing view or opinion on a subject, I believe that any member here should be free to express their position. However, for some, any opposition to their opinion or position is taken as a personal attack against which they must immediately defend. At that point the thread starts to deteriorate and it will be put to the other moderators for an opinion on whether it should be allowed to continue.

I don't believe that any of the moderators are trying to push a personal agenda as to what we can or can not say here. With the exception of a thread which is deliberately sexually explicit or racial in nature, the decision to delete or close a thread is not one taken capriciously. On many occasions, a thread may be pushing the bounds and a decision will be made by the moderators to allow it to continue.

I believe that each and every member here is mature enough to realize when a posting they make will become a hot button issue. While most will step back and reconsider the subject matter or the theme of their posting, there are a few that feel that it is their absolute right to say anything they want to. It is those postings that will force the moderators to exercise censorship.

As the initiator of one of the threads, I feel that perhaps I did an injustice to the moderators. I know that they take no joy in removing a thread, and I am saddened that my actions caused them this stress. For this I appologize.

That being said, I am a firm believer in the Constitution and individual rights and was thrilled with the SCOTUS decision. I just did not realize that the subject would generate such heated, emotional contension within the ranks. I too took the oath to "Protect and defend....." and from this point on, at least on this forum, I will do it quietly and refrain from posting any thought that might again generate political contension.

To Don and the moderators, Thank you all for maintaining such wonderful place to visit. I really appreciate all your efforts.

It's as he said he has asked the members in the past and the overwhelming majority of members who responded wanted it this way and that is why it is the best motorcycle forum on the net. If it comes up for an other vote I will again vote to keep it clean.

OMG...it warms the cockles of my heart to read these words. I do declare we might have a bleedin-heart-liberal-democrat leading this club after all.....ooops, was that a personal insult??

:rotf:

I'm lovin every minute of it...but in 2 minutes I'm outta this jail house for a couple months and I gotta get out on the bike to plan some more fantastic rides in anticipation of hosting a gaggle of bleedin heart, gun toting Yamaha riders at the
