Well,

Sheet happens (Yeah, but why to me???).

Monday morning, back from Chicago week trip, so as every day run my bike to job.

Perfect stability, with the bigger winshield I got almost 90 mph with no vibration at all. I was amazed about it.

Now, on a stupid main street, at almost 20 mph a lady talking on the cell & driving cross a wet street without looking at the both sides (I was coming north on the main street).

As soon as I press the brake handle (Of course I should use the rear brake first, but my hands where faster than my right foot), the rear side of the bike was faster than the front wheel, and of course on a slipper street I went down.

On me, only a broken pant, a burn on my knee, and that was all. On the bike, my front left turning light got the ring broken, the passing lamp got the ring out, both visors are OK, and the internal bolt that holds both lamps on the mounting passing lamps got broken at the middle of the hollow thread, and some new scratches on the side of the new winshield that already come scratched (See my Excelent Condition thread...)

I believe the worst part was when I went to the dealer to get new parts: No replacements, I need to get a full kit of everything....

As the passing lamp mounting braket only got a little smashed, I think that I can fix it and will be impossible to notice, except with a magnifier trying to access between the two lamps.

The passing lamp ring is only with a few scratches but seems that something is missing as the small with the nut that hold it, seems easy to open.

Conclusion: Do somebody has a ring for the passing lamp and a ring for the turn light to sell, and may be the bolt that links both lamps?

I forget this is for a 1997 Royal Star.

I don't need to replace all since there where minor stuffs.

No, still don't need a new knee.

:doh::doh::doh:

Thanks

Sorry to hear you went down. Just glad you weren't hurt worse. Bike can be fixed you can't. I hate to see someone on a cell phone while they're driving. I know they aren't paying attention.

Good luck getting the parts you need.

calperin,

I am not trying to get your hopes up, but if you post a photo or two of the ring you need, I just might have one.

If I do, you can have it, and I will even pay the postage to get it to you.

Take a photo of the other part you said you might be able to fix and no one would be able to notice it... I might have one of those parts also.

Eck,

I'll take it today and posted as soon as I got back home.

BigD,

She was too busy talking on the phone to realize that crossing Main Street on Royal Oak can be something to consider as look both sides before to run like if you're the only driver on the street at 7:45 in the morning. Of course, she don't even stopped. And I was far from touch her car.

To all of you, thanks

There are two sets of passing lamps on E-Bay right now with Buy it now price of 80 or 90 bucks. I saw these and was going to tell you 2nd Gen guys about them and saw this first. They might be what you are looking for. New still in box. I was tempted to grab a set and add them to parts room.

Yammer Dan,

About the sets, yes I'm watching on e-bay the bid. Also, I got a guy on Canada offering a ring for the passing lamp, that may be for parts I'll going to get anyway.

I have to find if I can build a bolt with some hollow thread for hold the lamp cases.

cecdoo,

This is the risk all of us know about riding a bike. Of course, nobody want to have anything like this, but no complains, I love to ride. Curious is I didn't have anything like this since I was 18 years old. About 36 years ago....

Sorry to hear about your crash. I had one later in the evening and know what you are going through. Altho mine had considerable more damage(I have an 87 Venture) it doesn't look good for repair.Too old by one shop but depends on cost from another. Hope have more luck with yours!

If you want to send the broken bolts to me, I can almost certainly braze them back together. Worse case, I can probably make a new set. Won't cost you anything but postage. Let me know.

First at all, I want to thanks everyone for your thoughts & support.

:bighug:

Now, as I promised before there are pictures of the damaged parts. (Sorry, are not 100% in focus).

V7Goose, I have no problem. I check on the hardware store that it seems that the thread is Metric 10 with a pitch slightly out of 1.25.

The top side ends with an allen head, that holds the Passing lamp case, and the turn light case is holding by the thread. There is a picture of the broken piece.

No problem to send you the part, you can e-mail me your address to calperin@calperin.com with the details, and thanks for the help.

Yammer Dan, I already bought one, and make an offer on the other one.

Thanks again,

I didn't get wheather the lady stopped or not. Here in Alabama we have a no contact law. You can be at fault for causing a wreck even if you're not hit. Sounds like you fit the bill.

Calperin,

It appears you already found or have "two" replacement rings coming..

(1) from a guy in canada and (2) You purchsed one

Appears you dont need any more help with getting a replacement ring then right? :confused24:

Eck,

The one from Canada is the one that I purchased. They said that is a 4.5" ring that belongs to Yamaha, but after watch the picture in detail I'll find out after I receive it.

Still need the turning lamp ring.

Thanks

Cal, do you still need the drilled allen bolt that holds the passing lamp in place? I have an extra from when one of mine broke and I replaced them both with some stouter ones that I fabricated. If you need it, PM me your address and I'll send it out.
