i work with a guy, who just bought a mid/late 90'svirago-1100.

he says that at hiway speed, it sounds as if the valves are clattering, but not noticeable at any other speed.

bike has 5600, miles on it.

i wouldn't think the valve train, would make a racket, with these few miles on it.

anyone able to help me out on this one?

I think it is fairly normal. Naugh-T's 1100 makes some noise as well.

But it will still likes to run high on Rpm's.

My guess is the timing chain. There is a spring that provides tension on the chain that is often weak or broken. Easy fix if this is what it is.

Check the valve adjustment and the cam chain tensioner. Viragos do have noisy valve trains. Both easy to check. Rod

The valve train noise on my 02 1100 was actually louder than the clutch wine on the RSV. A word of caution, the manual has a typo on the valve clearance specs. Follow what is on the bike label.
