a1bummer Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 What should I check if the gear indicator on my 84 isn't working properly? Neutral light works when in neutral, Says 5th. when in 5ith., Says 4th. when in 1st., neutral, 2nd., 3rd., and 4th. I popped out the sending unit and it appeared to look alright. I can live with it not working properly. It just annoys me. If it's gonna be there it should work properly I figure.
mbrood Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Since you had the sending unit off... did you note the spring loaded brass pin that rotates across the terminals? The starts out with a round head and wears down over time. You are basically grounding a terminal on the sending unit through that pin to show the gear position that then goes to the CMS. On the harness is the 6 wire connector contacts in good shape? You can test the dash panel by disconecting the 6 wire connector and ground each pin, watching the dash... Neutral sky blue 1st white 2nd pink 3rd yellow/white 4th blue/white 5th red/white then you can do a resistance check on the sender by checking for a solid short on the corresponding wire in each gear.
a1bummer Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 Now why didn't I think of doing that already? Thanx
