Hello all, I just bought a new 08 venture and getting ready for the 600 mile check up. I am having problems with the radio not wanting to change chanels when it get warmed up and lastnight noticed that I have a antifreeze leak. Anything else anyone knows I need to keep an eye out for? I also read in a forum somewere that there was something that they can do about the wine I get from the gears at highway speed around 70 that after awhile gets alittle on your nerves. Thanks for any and all info and be safe out there.

Congrats on the new bike. I think you will love it. There are threads here on all sorts of noises and quirks about this bike. Your dealer should take good care of you. If not do some searches and posts and the expeerts will be along.

Hi waterbug, congrats on the new Venture.

I bought a new 07 at the end of May, and have just passed 1700 miles on it.

Seems like I'm having a similar problem with the radio controller. Mine does different things at different times. Sometimes, it will simply not come on. Other times, while on, it will "lock up" so that there is no control except volume. I have also noticed the lcd display flickering on and off. This is only a minor annoyance for me, though, because I really have little use for a radio on a motorcycle. About the only thing I use the radio for is listening to while I'm working in the garage. I have read that reseating connectors inside the faring may cure this problem. First time I open up the faring, I will do that and see. Usually, lockup of the controller is cured by power cycling the key. But not always. Usually when it locks up I just ignore it. Then next day find it working again.

Try to identify the source of the coolant leak. It would be helpful if you knew where the coolant is coming from before you take it in for service. It may be nothing more than overflow from a slightly overfilled reservoir, which wouldn't be unusual for a new bike in hot weather.

The gear whine is somewhat irritating, for sure. I deal with it by wearing earplugs at all times. Actually that isn't the primary reason I wear earplugs but is more like a side-effect of wearing them. I find the general noise levels on a motorcycle to be very high. Too high for my ears. The wind, the mechanical noises, the noise from traffice out on the highway, this is a lot louder than many people realize, 'cause they get used to it. So IMO we should be wearing earplugs whether our own machines are whining or not. The earplugs completely elimiate the whine for me. There are supposedly some things they can do for the whine to reduce it, but I have my doubts. I think this is a characteristic of the motor, and not worth digging into the motor to try to fix it. It doesn't represent a problem. So my advice would be to take the cheap fix, wear earplugs while riding.

Keep posted about that coolant leak, though. I'm interested in it.

I thought that Yamaha was to have addressed this issue with the clutch basket/whine issue with the 08's?!?! My 07' is problemtaic enough to where I really don't care to ride it as much as I'd like. Mine sounds like my tank I commanded when I was in the Army, but that was acceptable considering it was a 1500 hp turbine engine:)

Yup, this sounds exactly like the controller head connection in the front faring. Cleaning and dielectric grease should fix this right up.

Kevin,

My venture had a leak as well. Mine was leaking oil and the trouble was the valve covers were not tightened down. Seems the shop found a lot of loose bolts when they did the 600 mile service.

Thanks for the info everyone, They found the leak problem it was a O ring and some bolts lose nothing major and the radio he said they put the grease in it and wire tie the plugs together in the cowl so they dont come apart. I havent heard what they did about the other stuff yet but will let you know

The radio on my '07 had exactly the same problem. A couple of times a week all of the buttons except the volume would go dead for 10 to 15 minutes and then start working again. The dealer replaced the controller under warranty and I haven't had any more problems in the last month or so.

I just picked up the bike and rode it home and she runs alot better now and sounds better. They did tune the carbs alittle and I can tell and fixed the leak and the radio. He told me that the whine I hear isnt as bad on mine as some of them and there wasnt much he could do but maybe at the next oil change go to a synhetic oil and alittle heaver and that might quit it down. I noticed that when I went to roll it back out of the parking spot it seemed like it rolled alittle easier to. .so far all is good and she purrs like a kitten and hopefully she stays that way.

Congrats on the bike, I have an 06 with 13k on it now and it runs awsome. Just got back from a 2k trip and rode it like I stole it. Nothing but performance out of it. I had a problem with the radio crackling a lot but found the wire going to it was streched pretty tight. This started to act up after riding the Dragon and several other roads around Deal's Gap. Good luck and don't let any grass grow under those wheels. When you need tires go for the Avons.
