Front brake squeal

Does anyone else out there have a second gen venture that souds like a city bus coming to a stop, if so what can be done to quiet the frront brakes ? Thanks for your help

Could also be some dirt or a hard spot on the pads.

in addition to the disc brake quiet, while the pads are off, bevel the edges of the pads with a file or die grinder.....mine made the squeal and grinding noise every time i stopped, now they are very quiet!!

I used a set of brake pad shims I purchased from Dennis Kirk, they seem to work quite well and were fairly easy to install, just trim to fit. I didn't do the rear, only the fronts.

My 01 has the city bus noise on the front brake. My 07 has no brake sound issues.

I put permatex brake quiet on the back of mine works great

You spray it on the BACKS of the pads!!!!!

They also make a 2.5 oz tube, that you spread on the back of the pad also.

Take note of the step that states

 

Do not apply on the side that comes into contact with the rotor

 

I have seen several people put it on the wrong side!!!!!!!!!!

 

I have always used the liquid type, but might try the spray on type this time around.

I am attempting to apply some Brake Quiet to my pads.. but the bottle says not for Shimmed Pads.

And the caliper side pad does have a metal shim clipped to it...

So are you applying this stuff to the pad then attaching the shim?

Doesn't seem like it will have much affect then..

Do you also apply it to the back of the shim?

 

The stuff I have is "Disc Brake Quiet" by CRC bought at Advanced Auto.

hmm I seem to have made it worse..

Now instead of a squeal.. I get a tone.. like a pitch fork tone..

I applied the stuff to back of brake pad.. then snapped on the metal shim plate

I also sanded the pad surface and used a file to bevel the edges..

Did I do any damage?

Will this tone subside?

My driveway is gravel so I have a lot of squealing caused by dust. When it gets bad you can wipe the rotors or use the anti squeal stuff for disc brakes. That works. It is the dust which causes it here.
