BuddyRich Posted June 22, 2008 #2 Posted June 22, 2008 I use the standard auto anti squeal on the back of the pads
Squidley Posted June 22, 2008 #3 Posted June 22, 2008 I use the standard auto anti squeal on the back of the pads Same thing here, they have it in a spreay can at any autoparts store.
rek58 Posted June 23, 2008 #4 Posted June 23, 2008 Could also be some dirt or a hard spot on the pads.
stvmaier Posted June 23, 2008 #5 Posted June 23, 2008 in addition to the disc brake quiet, while the pads are off, bevel the edges of the pads with a file or die grinder.....mine made the squeal and grinding noise every time i stopped, now they are very quiet!!
RPG Posted June 23, 2008 #6 Posted June 23, 2008 I used a set of brake pad shims I purchased from Dennis Kirk, they seem to work quite well and were fairly easy to install, just trim to fit. I didn't do the rear, only the fronts. http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=191268&store=Main&catId=416&productId=p191268&leafCatId=41602&mmyId=
dharnie Posted June 25, 2008 #7 Posted June 25, 2008 My 01 has the city bus noise on the front brake. My 07 has no brake sound issues.
saddlebum Posted June 25, 2008 #8 Posted June 25, 2008 I put permatex brake quiet on the back of mine works great
dharnie Posted June 25, 2008 #9 Posted June 25, 2008 saddlebum - please be more specific - like how & where did you 'apply' this?
KiteSquid Posted June 25, 2008 #10 Posted June 25, 2008 You spray it on the BACKS of the pads!!!!! Click the can to go to Permatex's web site http://www.permatex.com/images/DisplayImage.asp?210|/images/ProductPhotos/80077.jpg They also make a 2.5 oz tube, that you spread on the back of the pad also. Click on the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) link on the above page for more information. Take note of the step that states Do not apply on the side that comes into contact with the rotor I have seen several people put it on the wrong side!!!!!!!!!! I have always used the liquid type, but might try the spray on type this time around.
Globewalker Posted June 5, 2011 #11 Posted June 5, 2011 I am attempting to apply some Brake Quiet to my pads.. but the bottle says not for Shimmed Pads. And the caliper side pad does have a metal shim clipped to it... So are you applying this stuff to the pad then attaching the shim? Doesn't seem like it will have much affect then.. Do you also apply it to the back of the shim? The stuff I have is "Disc Brake Quiet" by CRC bought at Advanced Auto. Thanks, Keith
etcswjoe Posted June 6, 2011 #12 Posted June 6, 2011 Mine does not sound like a city bus, it sounds like a bunch of crickets.

I get a tone.. like a pitch fork tone.. I applied the stuff to back of brake pad.. then snapped on the metal shim plate I also sanded the pad surface and used a file to bevel the edges.. Did I do any damage? Will this tone subside? Thanks, Keith Edited June 6, 2011 by Globewalker
Sailor Posted June 6, 2011 #14 Posted June 6, 2011 My driveway is gravel so I have a lot of squealing caused by dust. When it gets bad you can wipe the rotors or use the anti squeal stuff for disc brakes. That works. It is the dust which causes it here.
